@Loriathan AC3's story was epic (although the atmosphere of AC1, 2, and Brotherhood were better)

The problem is that Ubisoft's heart isn't in it anymore, they just want the money that it brings. Why do you think studios like Naughty Dog, Bungie, Valve, and, yes, Nintendo, do so well? Their hearts are in it. They care about their creations. They want to make the games, they find making them fun. That's why I honestly believe Watch_Dogs will do well, but the sequels will fall apart. They don't care if they want to do it, they care if it makes money. That and a lack of time due to deadlines are what is killing the franchise. I honestly hope they're making ACIV because they want to, and in interviews they sound like it, but it sounds to me like they're just looking at focus groups and saying, "They like it, put it in the game."

@pwncakes52 Bro u said it! coz when u love what u do and do it for not satisfaction or profit but simply HAPPINESS alone, u WANT TO MAKE IT SO GOOD! that even if they say they don't, all unintentionally deep down inside start to love it coz fans only think they know what they want until it comes in front of them and realize what they really want. And their the ones who actually suffer in the end. In the end it all comes down to developers integrity and will power to resist the greed for money and their true passion of making games

There never was anything in AC that was real other than the time period! No human, even peak athletic individuals can do what is done in this game!

@Sh0ckey_BeatZ Not at all; more like adding more toppings to an epic sundae. History is a long time, with so many periods, so much to reveal. Why have it take place in just 3 time periods? Why not reveal more stories about more assassin's and their role in history?

@ghostwarrior786 I agree totally with the video. I don't like it now because of how it changed. One and two had a great feel now they just kept getting worse. Not all gamers like the same things in games. That being said I will still get the new one in hopes they go back to their roots but it doesn't look good.

Not sure if I agree or not. Obviously Assassins and Pirates are very diferente things and I confess I didn't enjoy AC3 as much as the previous ones. Probably because Connor had no personality at all. But I don't regret having bought the game either. It was still enjoyable. And I know graphics are not everything, buy the graphics on AC3 were incredible, and they look even better on AC4.

I feel like my most fond experiences in any open game world are the ones when I find something off the beaten path, I haven't found a game that can make these experiences other than fallout.

@LilRoss2k3 yeah, I'm sure a lot of people missed out on AC2 because of bad experiences with the substandard first game, which is a shame because AC2 was truly amazing.

For me the thing that killed AC series is AC3 Ending. I loved the animus and "world end" story line. Each game gave clues to this mystery. I especially loved the "secrets" part of AC2 and ACB which gave puzzles and revealed how the Assassins, Templar, and "those who came before" affected our history. The whole thing was so interesting and mind blowing. But unfortunately it came to a bitter end by AC3. It had such a anti climatic and confusing ending that I'm surprised not much fan rage came toward it. (Most probably because everyone was more concentrated on the ME3 ending which in my opinion made more sense than AC3.) I mean 5 games with lots of mysteries and stories just so what? So They can reveal this ancient goddess thing villain out of nowhere and make the protagonist save the world and die by touching a disco ball in the last minute? What the hell?

And now we have AC4 which is more of Pirate game instead of an Assassin game with no more interesting story to tell.

@AlisaGushchin @Bumblebee1138 I truly wish that was true but there's nothing complex about AC3 Ending. It's just a confusing cliffhanger trying find a way to open path to another product.

Agree with everything except the "Animus" hate. I loved the idea of an anti-future connection to the past and it's what made me try out AC in the first place. Without it, the incredible ending to AC II wouldn't have been possible. I loved how the first AC's mini-games tied in how the Assassins and Templars fought across (via iconic artwork and scientific discovery) the centuries for the future (super-past) tech. I do think it was misused in the next few sequels, but if they remove Desmond's Animus sequences in any future game (even if they aren't up to par -- like in AC III), I'm tossing AC into the trash.... okay, I won't. But, I'll definitely have to write an email to Ubisoft.

@becgame AC3's Animus story was the best so far, traveling around the globe (when the American Revolution story was leaving on cliffhangers during the best times, to build the excitement)

@shorty10404 Not by a long shot lol most players love it (and is the primary reason for buying more AC games). Those who do hate it are extremely close-minded on the complexity and the experience is too much for them

I totally agree with this video. I love Assassin's Creed series, but the first two games were the best. The last one was the badest for me. It wasn't too much fun. I actually felt like he said... I was working, but it was technically the best in the series, which proves to me that not always the most beautiful games are funnier than the others.

i guess im apart of the silent minority but I have enjoyed every single AC game since release. Alot of people complained the first one had two few missions but i honestly enjoyed the story enough to progress through them. The only one that i pushed myself to finish was Revelations to see the end of Ezios story and it was not even a push.Im excited for what awaits in Black Flag however I agree that more time needs to be between the series even though AC3 was in development since 2. what ever Ubi does do not get rid of the Animus. You get rid of that you lose the whole series and story

I tried very hard to like this series, really I did, but I could never get into any of them. ACII was free for gold members on Live and I still couldn't enjoy it after 80% of the game. :(

Assassins Creed 1 felt a bit like a tech demo. It got too repetitive after a few missions.

Assassins Creed 2 was awesome, they really brought the game world to life. Brotherhood followed it up nicely and is probably my fave game in the series so far.

I'm not sure why I didn't really enjoy Revelations. Perhaps it was the sudden change of scenery. The bomb making was a bit of a pain too.

Assassins Creed 3 was ok, but I didn't really care for Connor. I did however really enjoy the ship battles so I am quite looking forward to AC 4!

@Pewbert

I think both AC1 and AC2 have very repetitive gameplay. But for whatever reason, I never got sick of doing the same things over and over with these two games. I always enjoyed climbing the highest towers and jumping down into the haypile, sneaking up on guards and slitting their throats, blending in with the monks, running all over rooftops, etc. But having played them both to completion, I'm also no longer interested in Assassin's Creed, which works out given the lackluster response to AC3. But the first two were very fun experiences.

I know why I personally didnt like AC3, and I think it's a huge point that was overlooked in Danny's video.

The writers got lazy, pinning the end of the world with the Mayan 2012 bs and an ancient alien precursor race who created humans blah blah blah - who hasn't seen this storyline a billion times. Nobody really cared about Desmond anyway.

After learning and playing as Conner's father, who was actually very interesting, we got stuck with Conner... A character with no motivation, no political or social beliefs and no emotions or emotional connection to the audience or other characters. He is a cardboard cut-out. The script is worse than a PBS episode of "History's Kids" and even a plank of wood and a hammer could have done better voice acting. The historical figures were little more than NPC's, sending Conner on one boring task after another after another with no reason.

During the promotion of the game, all Ubisoft talked about was the graphics and new mechanics. That should have been a hint. They ALWAYS forget - a game is only as good as it's plot.

Watch the "Mom dies" sequence in AC3. Tell me honestly if you give a rat's ass about any of these characters. You can stand there for 20 minutes or longer not saving mom from firey death while she tells you some bs backstory of little interest. This, to me, sums up AC3 completely...

It's become a franchise. Not a surprise, with the way Assassin's Creed is, it can go on for quite some time, 20+ main games wouldn't really be that surprising.

What is occurring among most people is fatigue. The games get released in a far too quick succession for people to take a break. I got AC Revelations soon after release, having played 2 and Brotherhood one after another not too long before that. Got through like 3 DNA Sequences on Revelations and I just couldn't go on. There was something about the game that felt "boring". So I uninstalled it and forgot about my ownership of that one for quite a while. Now, almost 2 years later, I re-installed it, not having played any AC game in-between and I'm having a blast.

The core mechanics of the games are solid, the settings are fairly interesting as well, it's just that some may grow tired of it since the underlying principles of the games remain the same. I'd get bored with ANY game (apart from open world custom character RPG like Skyrim etc.) if I had to play it several times in a year (first playthrough, one or two more after that, first sequel playthrough... you get the point).

@zaxrider I would agree with that, but at the same time, I think AC3 still lost something that made the first two primary titles engaging. I'm having a hard time pinpointing the problem, myself. The UI certainly didn't help, but after about three hours as Connor, I simply didn't care anymore, and I hadn't bothered with an Assassin's Creed title since the launch of Brotherhood.

I think Resident Evil has met more or less the same fate and for the same reasons. The story over time just got overcomplicated and melodramatic and in trying to make the gameplay supposedly more exciting, the core of what made it good to begin with was lost. Ultimately, both of these series started out feeling special and ended up as just another bunch of games.

I wish more people would take the approach Square took w/ Final Fantasy (not that that series is exactly in its hay day but it's an example everyone knows). You get a Final Fantasy game, it just means you are getting an RPG w/ certain core elements, a game that feels the same as others in the series. You don't need to tie all these games into one huge mess of a plot.

An overarching plot can really only be no better than its worse element. If they dropped the ball on, say, the second game of the series, the third then has to include all that garbage too and you are stuck w/ it forever. It is better to keep various important elements and the spirit of a given game intact over various iterations than it is to try to force everything to be some sort of long winded cannon.

@logicalfrank Can you think of any game series that extends as long as AC or RE yet manages a plot that's both sensible and engaging? I can't. As much as we may compare games to films, films (and books, I suppose) are able to carry a story for a while without losing appeal; TV series, on the other hand, tend to hang themselves with the very premise that gave them life. Maybe games are more like TV series in that respect. When it comes to stories, developers should keep it short and spend more time developing a world in which "sequels" can exist without having to continue a specific plot well past the jumping of the shark.

Yes, the AC series feels exactly like a product coming off an assembly line because that's how Ubi wants it. They have seen other franchises do exactly the same thing and make a lot of money.

I will wait to see how the review are for the next AC installment but I'm not really excited about it. The whole pirate thing feels like some kind of gimmick because pirates seem to be semi-popular at the moment so Ubi decided they should have a pirate AC game.

@wwlettsome Isn't that peculiar and a bit frustrating, though? The game clearly isn't as good as previous entries, and the most obvious answer seems to be because they're being assembled rather than crafted. However, when so many gamers are still willing to pay for it, why would Ubisoft (or any company) do anything differently? As a whole, we're disappointed, but are we disappointed enough to make an example of AC4?
