The Lo-fi Sci-fi of Alien: Isolation
The Alien: Isolation team discuss staying true to the original film in this exclusive insider video from Creative Assembly.
so they recorded the game onto vhs than recorded the screen with a camera? Yeahh.. this games gonna be crap with that kind of shortcut mentality
Never played a real horror game never been a big fan of those but i love science fiction and this looks promising :)
I cannot wait for this game. I want it scary. I want this game to be scary. I want this game to be good.
I have gotten my hopes up before... could this finally be the Aliens game that isn't a steaming pile of poop?
Pre alpha footage from CA.... reminds me of Total War Rome 2, and whatever that happened afterwards :)
Again it is looking so great, but I had this same feeling while looking at all the teaser pieces to A: Colonial Marines as well. I'll just wait it out and see, I would love to have a great Alien game to suffer (with glee) through!
Minor issue :), they talk about things in the game being limited to what they could have done in the 1979 Alien film, and at times specifically mention 70s tech. A few parts look that way, especially the white stuff, but overall to me it felt more like the 1986 AlienS film. Maybe it's just due to the welder and motion tracker that were so prominent in the second film.
ALIEN is one of those franchises you just pray is going to be promising, I mean look at Colonial marines, fans of ALIEN were very excited to see what was heading their way but when it arrived we were all pretty disappointed (I was one of them). The game itself is fun but the story line/voice acting appeared rushed and a little flat. I for one was gutted, but Isolation looks promising! (fingers crossed) come on one ship, one human and ONE Xenomorph? doesn't get much scary than that, this game is going to be one to play in the dark. Those who suffer from Claustrophobia.......avoid!
I hope that i am allowed to do that welding/un-welding instead of it being just another stupid cutscene/watching event. This is not 2007 anymore so don't deliver interactive movie.
I'm kinda interested in this and if it turns out that that welding is just animation to watch again, then it's a major flop. I want to be navigating with my own mouse, not be forced to watch something happen. Since this is Alien and if it doens't let me play, i rather uninstall it, have refund and watch actual Alien movie. Games are meant to be played and not watched.
When someone goes through that much effort to get HUD elements to look correctly, you know you've got serious dedication on the team.
Oh God, everything I hear about this game sounds like the team are absolutely nailing it! Can't wait!!! :)
@dannydopamine8 called authenticity
@VolcanoMan001 It'll be a steaming pile of poop. Then if it is, it's what you expected and if it isn't, it's the best Alien game you've ever played. ;-) Pre-launch content is never to be trusted. It's wrapping paper and nothing else.
@thread-of-red ^^ I am hoping for the same thing. Fingers crossed!!
@Orontes13 Ooooh good call on that one. I got burned on TWR2. Will wait for this one with baited breath.
@Samslayer Very true, though these are different developers, so it may be different this time; hopefully. The game is looking very good. It's weird how Colonial Marines looked way better when they showed it off at events, than the actual game; I mean, it was visually weaker in the final version, even on PC.
@hystavito I don't agree, take for instance the ship interior. It looks a lot more like the Nostromo than it does the Sulaco.
Yeah its interesting, but I'm unsure why the devs have lo-fi and Alien so closely linked...is it because they first watched the film on a VHS copy recorded from a TV broadcast?
I mean, its a film, 35mm its sharp as sh**t.
But I really admire what they're doing with the art direction, there's a certain integrity in following the visual language of the original, instead of trying to re-futurize the design for contemporary viewing.
@Johny_47 Your avatar is great! Freedom Fighters was the shit back in the day
@bibleverse1 Good. Everybody should as Alien games have been rather lacking. I hope this one blows people out of the water and shows the potential of such a wonderful license.
@quakke If you actually decide things like which doors to weld/unweld (like almost any door you see) and then that actually has an effect on the outcome, that would be good enough, even if the welding is just an animation, I could accept that. Though I would prefer it as you do.
If the game is instead very linear and mostly just advanced by the story, for example you just weld doors when you reach the point in the plot where they want you to weld, then I probably won't be into this.
@quakke In the first trailers it seems that you are controlling the welding, or at least it's not an animation or FMV. I think the animations are solely limited to when you're fiddling with something which has a CRT screen display like a computer or suchlike.
@lindallison They're going with what the VHS looked like, which is what was in homes at the time of the movie coming out on video. They're going with that instead of what people song in theaters.
@kingnothing47 Yep. I just had a desktop wallpaper of it the other day, but changed it back to Alien Isolation. What a coincidence. I still want a sequel to Freedom Fighters! Dang. By now though, a remake just through visual and control would be nice.
