sound different but if there's no strategie just bullets they might as well change the name to Not Syndicate.
So basically they took an RTS type shooter with somewhat non-linear missions and turned it into a linear FPS. I smell a stinker. >:(
Imagine what a Syndicate remake could have looked like in the hands of a talented and inspired team. Instead they handed it over to the same drones that starred in the original game. It's ironic, it's sad, it's exactly what we came to expect of EA et al.
What it really needs is 4 man co-op so you can really dig in to that original 4 man syndicate strike team.
That guy really didn't answer much. He seemed like he read a quick pamphlet on the game 2 minutes before and tried to work with that. Anyway I loved the original Syndicate and I gotta admit this looks pretty damn cool. But with all things game we shall have to wait and see
Q: "so does this game require any skill?" A: "you get a lot of guns." Q: "do you make any choices or are you railroaded the entire time?" A: "the railroad looks pretty sweet."
@XIntoTheBlue Why would the game be worth playing if it was its own IP but not as this IP. Is a name THAT important. Fallout 3 was nothing like Fallout 1,2 but it was a fun game regardless, I would have been dumb if I passed it over just because it was called Fallout instead of something else. Mario 64 was very different from all the previous Mario games but it was great regardless. This game might actually be good. I probably won't pre-order it, but I am interested to see more info some of the gadgets looked neat and the idea of controlling someone mind and making them blow their own head off seems neat, but I don't know if that is a scripted event or something you actually control.
Is it me or did the EA guy completely avoid answering the interviewer's questions with longwinded answers? Figures. If the game was its own IP or made after a game in the same genre for a change, this game might be worth picking up. Shame, really, as I am a sci-fi fan and this game would be on my to buy list for 2012 otherwise.
A little less "the consumer", a little more "players", Mr. I-just-got-my-marketing-degree. Too much about driving a Lexus and drinking Crown Royal on the executive side of this industry. Not enough love for the gamer or the games.
What a waste of a great IP. The original Syndicate was dark, gritty and violent. Syndicates were cold-hearted assassins; often killing everyone around them...including their own. This game however, looks extremely generic, dull and "safe." Almost as if they were working on something else and decided to slap the Syndicate name on it at the last minute. I mean, what happened to the awesome 4-man squad concept? And according to this EA guy, isometric games don't "put you into the game." As I recall, EA makes another tiny game in isometric view...maybe the game was too small for this guy to remember..but it's called The Sims.
Mr Global Brand Manager, the IP was much beloved in the 90s because it was a great action / strategy cannon fodder style top down game, not because it was Doom with implants. If EA wanted to make Deus Ex Human Revolution without the yellow filter, just start a new IP instead of abusing the name of another. In next week news, Nintendo announce the new Smash Court Tennis will be a 3rd person shoot em up "not at all like Gears Of War..."
Oh! I somehow got the misconception this game had ANYTHING to do AT ALL with the original Syndicate...
That guy being interviewed is worse than a politician! All the way through this interview I was thinking "Just answer the damn question". Maxwell has improved a lot as an interviewer since his first interview a while back. He's finally stopped trying to sound cool when he asks questions, definitely a good thing.
Was it really so hard to say, "We wanted a strong narrative so we decided to go with a linear approach." I've never seen someone "dodge" that poorly in my life. I'm not even sure it qualifies as dodging. It was more like tripping, falling flat on your face, then squirming away
The combat looks surprisingly good. It certainly looks like the game is being sold by way of combat and weapons. I don't mind linear at all if the combat and story are believable (I didn't say realistic!) like in Dead Space 1 & 2.
i like how he tried to dodge the linear vs open world question with a bunch of mumbo jumbo but really only succeeded in dragging out the word "Linear" into multiple sentences...
So its linear then? @ Gelugon_baat, its simple economics, RTS has never quite worked for consoles liked it has for PC, and in this day and age you need to release games on consoles to make (the most amount of ) money. FPS is easier to do on both consoles and PC's. Sad times we live in.
Another generic shooter with a stolen name. Just like the new X-oom! What's the difference between this and Deus Ex 3, another generic shooter using a classic game! Instead of Deus Ex 3 and Syndicate, may I recommend an indie PC game that, to my mind, is the true follow-up to the original Deus Ex - and that game is E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy. Check it out, it's only $20 and I love it! HL2 combat with deep deep RPG gameplay!
@drangel_jam not sure wtf you are talking about, but there appears to be a bunch to be excited about in this video... looks to me like you are highly connected to your character while playing, and they are carrying on the tradition of a mixture of melee and gunplay which was awesome in riddick. i always just feel like a camera with a gun in FPS shooters but in starbreeze games (riddick, the darkness) i feel grounded in my character which really helps the gameplay feel solid.
Honestly, I don't see much that gets me excited, but the fact that Starbreeze made the Riddick games, it's enough to get me excited about this. Can't wait.
sounds quite uninspiring so far. syndicate and x-com, two great ip's given the FPS treatment.hmmmm. gotta make that dollar i suppose.
Looks sick! Just like if Syndicate had contracted Yirsinia pestis, AH1N1 and developed a cancer tumor at the same time!
