Resident Evil - Next-gen Trailer
Things aren't looking so good for Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield in the first trailer for the remastered Resident Evil.
Man that takes me back, RE1 on the PS1, used to be able to play that through in one hit without a single save, I would almost certainly buy this again for old times sake. Voice acting sucks balls slightly but it'll still be miles better than RE6
In order to make this game HD I believe capcom used the original assets of the game without compressing the backgrounds and the model textures. Otherwise they would have to recreate the entire backgrounds because there is no way to upscale it to "look HD"
Come on Capcom, all you did here was re-release what you originally did for the GameCube! Don't get me wrong, still a fantastic game. I just feel Capcom could do so much more for such a well deserving title.
"You were almost a Jill sandwich!"
If they get rid of tank controls I might actually play this game.. for the first time ever.
I'm doing to do what i did when i was a kid. playing it up late at night, in the dark, with the windows open. On LSD.
Controls are perfect for the type of game RE is.Matter of fact: the cam angles, tank controls,pre-rendered backgrounds, scarce ressources/save points is what made those games so great. L2adapt and grow some skills, not every game has to play the same and be a generic over-the-shoulder corridoresque story-driven turd. Man I cant believe all the gamer-pretenders flooding the market nowadays. Truly,if you cant adapt to different gameplay style/mechanics. You dont belong as a gamer, you just suck. Stick to your Ass Creed /COD/Crap of Us garbage or simply find a better hobby, thank you.
Does anyone else think they should have made the movies following the video games, starting with this one. Of course it would have to start outside the mansion showing you the main characters and explain why they are in the woods, as well as how they end up in the mansion. Not only that when they finally do bring back BARRY you know who he is!!! When I say that about barry I mean for people that were not into this series from day one. OF COURSE I knew it was him as soon as I saw the vest. But his charcter as well as the other starz deserved WAY more attention. But back to the movie part just imagine when you walk out on to that balcony and found the snipers body picked clean.... this franchise(game) deserves better.
Ahhh!!! It seems like I was using a gameshark on the back of my playstaion yesterday...... as well as using an infinite rocket launcher.
Remaster Resident Evil 2 with next gen graphics so I could run from Mr. X and lickers (RE5 version sucked) with limited herbs and ammo.
Finally a Resident Evil game that is creepy, while causing you to use your brain. I'm so sick of having ammo laying around everywhere, green herbs around every corner, puzzles that a pre-k toddler could figure out, and autosave. I loved being nervous about running around corners, reserving ammo/herbs, and deciding if I should use an ink ribbon now without regretting it later.
Wow there shocking graphics, please god no one buy this sh*te, I mean were on to next gen, not last gen, honestly there small rooms, bloody rebuild them, you have the building blocks re do it, this is an absolute cash grab and that's all it is, I mean how much effort would it take to redesign all the rooms properly, but nope what we get is a slider touched up to 1080p on the gamecube version, wow brilliant, if the controls are the same then, i'm sorry but there now called fustrating, not adds to the horror.
Game play is what matters most, and they aren't changing it from what I understand. However, the purpose of a "next-gen" remaster and remake is to bring modern graphics to classic game play. These are not modern graphics, the models look almost identical to the 12 year old Gamecube remaster/remake and I wouldn't consider something like Anti-Aliasing to be a reason to call something remastered.
This seems to be a port of the Gamecube remake, and while it is great to have that awesome style game play, that's not an excuse to dump minimally updated, decade old Gamecube graphics onto the market.
This honestly looks like a way to try and make quick cash with as little effort as possible. It might be a way to bring the Gamecube remake to a wider audience, and allow more people to get the experience of that original game play, but it doesn't look to be marketed that way or it may be Gamespot's fault for hyping it this way.
Graphics can be used to allow a more immersive experience, not just allowing for a gamer to feel more submerged in the gaming environment, but also enhance the overall artistic experience.
A game like this deserves a chance to actually be remastered using modern graphics to push the gamer's experience to what today's technology can offer. Imagine how much more tense a situation might feel if you aren't taken out of the moment by a characters static textures and dead eyes, or how much scarier it might feel to be ambushed by a monster that doesn't have blocky arms and fingers.
I think this will most likely be a cheap, greedy, cash-in, hoping to capitalize on the nostalgia of gamers, and if it's released at a price point anywhere near a full release then it might be cheaper to get the Gamecube and game off eBay and skip the wait.
The character models look bad. I don't get it... the point of using prerendered (still picture) backgrounds in the original is they could use a lot of polys on the characters. But this is PS4 and they look like crappy PS3 character models.
While I wouldn't mind playing through this again 20 years later, I don't know if I could handle the original controls which is how it looks in the video. The revamped controls from RE4 on should really be implemented, purists be damned.
New age gamers who are gonna try and play this game as If it was call of duty are gonna have a hard time
My god, how I used to cherish my time in the safe confines of the typewriter rooms ... and the dread I felt having to leave them.
There is serum! i've played this on gamecube that was the only reason why I bought the machine and got it for wii later, now to play it on ps3/ps4, should of come out on ps2/ps3 in the first place, should never had gone to nintendo.
Love the remake, whingers stop whingng and play it, now for re2/3 remake
@vadagar1 Don't forget the red and blue ones!
@lostn They are getting rid of the tank controls.
Couldn't agree more! I've been praying for the day they scrap te horrific crap storyline they have now and just restart it. I don't know how many times I've brought up the fact that this movie franchise is like making an X-Men or Avengers movie, completely ignoring the key characters, and just making up you own character who is superior to every other hero in the story.... B.S.
@bezza2011 Not sure if you're serious (hope for your own sake you're not)... But for me, having not played this game since the late 90's after it's original release, I'm actually really happy with the way it looks.. Such an upgrade from 1996... Also gaming is more about gameplay than graphics.. Back then it was one of the best games I'd ever played and still remains that way until this day.. Resi 1,2 and 3 were just awesome
I don't think you've even bothered to truly compare the GC version
the remastered. The character models have been upgraded, same with the
lighting, sound, and they also polished up the pre-rendered
backgrounds.. On top of all this, the game will be running at 1080p on
next-gen and PC, whilst previous gen will get 720p. Visuals and
aesthetics aside, they are recording the dialogue in Japanese, so that
will be interesting. We'll also see a new remastered version of
"Wesker's Report". This isn't another Resident Evil: Archives (Wii
port), it's truly a remaster. Considering all of that and the fact that
they are planning to show another trailer, we may be seeing more content
such as unlock-able costumes, weapons, concept art, etc. They are also
doing some sort of social media campaign on their website, claiming that
the players will receive extra content if a lot of people participate.
"A game like this deserves a chance to actually be remastered using modern graphics to push the gamer's experience to what today's technology can offer"
It's a 12 year old game. What you are asking them to do there is to rebuild the visuals from the ground up. First off, the 360 and PS3 versions would need to be scrapped. The pre-rendered backgrounds would need to be redone entirely, animations and cut scenes would also need to be redone, game-play mechanics could potentially need to be changed as well, and there are probably a number of other things that need to be changed that does not particularly matter to the gamers. Doing all of this requires a lot more resources and time, and at this point all of that needs to be spent on titles like Resident Evil 7.
"and if it's released at a price point anywhere near a full release then it might be cheaper to get the Gamecube and game off eBay and skip the wait."
I don't think any of this matters with people like
you, because if Capcom does the stuff you guys want them to do with the
game, then you'll get a game closer to full price, and you all will
whine about it an old game being too expensive. Many fans including
myself wanted this game to be ported to consoles, and Capcom is finally
responding. They are also using this game to see if there is any
interest left in the survival-horror genre, and to see if there is any
potential to re-release other previous Resident Evil games.
@stalepie This is just a HD version of the Gamecube Remake, not a new game. The models look bad because they are from 2002.
@banderweir From what they said they're providing both the original controls and updated ones.
@banderweir Nah you just suck at it. The old controls are fine. Plus, the RE4 controls are the same as the RE1 controls, it is just the camera is different. Anyone who sucks with the old controls are pathetic. It's nearly 20 years later and they still can't adapt. There is no excuse. You nerds are just used to easy COD controls.
@Metallicwolf29 I'm not a new age gamer, and I still couldn't handle the controls, even in 1996. It felt like it was done artificially just to make it harder to escape the zombies. In real life, I don't walk like that. I don't turn on the spot and then only be able to walk forward.
@depman1972 Get adblock. This site (and IGN) isn't useable without it. You'll be bombarded with ads so bad you'll want to never visit the site again.
@BelaidKL @bezza2011 Grab a Game Cube and play 0. Its just as good and truly that tr0ll needs to disappear. Couldnt tell a good game even if it plsses straight at its face.
