Or you could simply keep your 3ds you own and not turn on the 3d effect. Like 99% of 3ds owners already do. Or spend a little more and get a 3dsxl with a much larger screen and turn off the 3d effect.
This is what Nintendo does though. They spin and re-spin old ideas to the point of obscurity.
i don't think i've ever laughed so much at the comments. thank u all for cheering me up after work. and thank you nintendo. i have no idea where you are going but i am enjoying the ride.
this is dumb going the way of the GBA micro or Wii mini since. we all know that, the paste systems redisgns have worked so well before.
My analysis why the 2DS is an actual genius move on Nintendo part: http://www.deemag.com/2013/08/29/nintendo-2ds-madness-or-ingenuity/ Give it a read/comment
Thats not the entire video, if you watch the directors cut, its says "Bazinga, Trolololol, JK :)" at the end
mhm I read a lot of hate down below but I dont understand it :/ its the cheaper model guys ! Its targeted for people who dont need the blows and whistles of the 3Ds models, if you already have the 3Ds thats fine play that but if you were holding off and just want to play some cool 3Ds games on the fly like I dunno the castlevanias this is a very good option indeed, even thou I must admit it looks a little bit large I just wish they would keep the old design and just strip away the mostly costly 3D features and what not ! Same did Sony with the PSP street which lacks WiFi and glossy finish but aside from that its like any other PSP and only 100 Euro so there you go Nintendo why not making it sameways ?
I think Nintendo should be more focused on getting things up to speed with the Wii-U rather than developing a new, mostly unnecessary handheld.
I have one eye and fat pants. I'ts perfect for me. I'll buy this. Thank you Nintendo!
• Too big to comfortably put in your pocket, so it kinda undermines the idea of a portable.
• The screen is unprotected which now means you are pretty much forced into buying an additional cover at extra cost.
• Lower battery life than current 3DS XL.
• Smaller screen than 3DS XL.
• Removal of 3D display capability which up until now was supposedly one of 3DS' main unique selling points and gimmicks.
• Awkward fugly asymmetric design with mono speaker off to one side, cartridge slot off center, fat top and thick bottom, bigger curves on top corners than bottom corners, and other little bits and bobs unevenly positioned all over the place.
• We're told it's aimed at children under 7 yet on the box it say 6+, so it's target demographic is the tiny range between 6-7 year olds. WTF!
This thing isn't an actual joke but it is an actual joke.
Good Idea. No one uses their 3DS with 3D on anyway!
I would have liked if they kept it looking like the 3DS or 3DS XL with the folding screen though.
It is a lot cheaper than a 3DS, I seen at EB Games Australia its only $148 so this one will be for the kids that want a handheld to play 3DS and DS games on.
So how am I gonna finish ANY PUZZLE from the ds games that demand the game to be closed and touching both screens together ?
I seriously don't get it, what's the point of this ugly handheld? who the hell would buy this ugly thing over the 3ds clamshell design unless there is something more to it that's not mention in this advertisement.
It's an ugly piece of shit. No reason to ditch the more compact (and better looking) clamshell design.
The system itself looks alright but that advertisement was awful.
Just a bunch of people staring into coloured squares smiling like headcases.
It wouldn't have been out of place on April 1st.
You know I'm right.
i seriously thought it was a joke but hey whatever. im more upset that they didnt make a better version of the 3ds..with say a better battery life.
Seriously, Is This Just A Joke Made By Gamespot To Troll You Even More After Resi Giraffe and The Other Game With Giraffes?
I need to tell you something nintendo, you messed up. THIS WAS Supposed to be announced on april 1st, instead of some awesome-looking dubstep game. And This Is Real?! SNEAK KING Is a more possible thing than a 3DS that can't shut and DOESN'T Have 3D!
At first, I thought this was a crazy idea and something I wouldn't be interested in. But after I thought about it, I might just be interested. It looks just like a touch screen tablet, which gives it a type of professional look that not even the original 3DS has. I have never been a fan of the 3D on the 3DS (which was largely why I sold mine already), so it's not at all a loss if the 2DS doesn't have 3D. It looks durable and resistant (since it's flat and hingeless), and the circle pad is located more towards the center of the device, which is better than the 3DS's circle pad located on the lower edge. Overall, a highly strange yet thoughtful invention!
That thing looks fuckin' huge! It doesn't even fold like it's predecessor o_O
it's not April 1st is it?
Saw this on youtube and thought it was some sort of prank. This thing looks awful. I keep my 3DS XL thank you very much.
THIS IS SO FUCKING STUPID ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CAN TURN THE 3D FUNCTIONALITY OFF THROUGH PARENTAL CONTROLS
So you can take it "wherever you go", but you can't fold it up to put it in your pocket, and you have to buy a bag to carry it around in so you don't scratch the screen.
@Gargus You missed the whole point of this console. It doesn't play 3DS's games in 2D because you previously couldn't,it does it because you won't have to pay for something you don't use.
The whole idea behind this console is:
-Include the fundamentals
-Keep it cheap
-Make it hardy because it's aimed at LITTLE KIDS (the kid is using one,the father has a normal 3DS,if you watched it then you got the message)
-Release it in time for the new Pokemon
which is 2 months away from Christmas. If you were a parent and you'd like to buy your kid the new pokemon game, (who wouldn't? We all grew up playing red/blue) wouldn't you like of having a much cheaper option? It's not like the little bugger needs the 3DSXL screen or the 3D feature to have his share of fun.
I know it looks retarded from a certain point of view, but that's a pretty narrow point.
The world does not revolve around you.If you own a 3DS/3DSXL this product is not for you.The 2DS is aimed at parents, who have little demanding kids and they want to buy them 3DS games without having to pay for all the extra features that will probably go unused in the hands of a child.
And yes,clam-shell is handy, but your kid will find a way to snap it in 2 eventually.
Before I get tossed in a corner and branded a fanboy,I'd like to say I own a PSP and the only reason for this post is because I find it logical and a good chance to grab the Pokemon X/Y with a half-priced console.
It's not about making any technological breakthrough's,it's about making games available to the people who are tempted to try them out,but are skeptical about spending 200 euros on a fancy console.
It's about those people,and parents.
You have a slider at the bottom right corner, move this and the 2DS will enter sleep mode. Sleep mode is the equivalent of closing a normal DS.
@Altazen allot of people cant afford 3ds so this means more people will buy 3ds games! and perants wont be so reserved about buying young kids a hand held console as its so affordable :) makes mega sense from nintendo
@Altazen It is just cheaper for those that don't want 3D...
@gralvader I was having a conversation with my bro about what the difference between this and the 3ds and the old ds was (had just seen a pic and the 2ds name,no specs). needless to say it got confusing.
@cboye18 Ill tell you why because Pokemon is coming out and a lot of people will buy a Nintendo system for that game. so the ugly piece of mess 2ds is perfect its cheap, and their is no 3d to potentially damage the little kids eyes.
@xiiraveniix That's why I don't own an iPad.
