samus is like that in the manga that is who she is u cant make someone change their vision of what their character's personality is just to make a handful of people happy that would be ruining their artistic visions. i for one love how samus is it shows that is a human that has emotions not some bloodthirsty bounty hunter that never talks

Metroid Other M is the most overlyhated and overlybashed games on the Wii, I picked it up expecting it to be bad from all the mixed reviews but when I final played it I actually had a load of fun with the game, Metroid Other M may not be a very good Metroid game but its still a very good game in its own right. Despite what I hear this game is absolutely nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. Metroid Other M is no shining gem but its not even close to being a bad game.

I don't care what any of you say, I personally enjoyed every minute of the game. The story is incredible and the game play is nothing but perfect and it certainly tops other Metroid games in terms of gameplay. Sure the game wasn't as good as the Prime series overall but why do you have all this hate inside you. It's another great entry in the series and the fact that Samus only use her weapons when authorised to do so is more realistic and understandable that just finding a grapple beam lurking on the floor. So stop your damn complaining and and play the game and if you hate it so much then don't buy it.

Would you morons all stop complaining, Metroid Other M may be a dissapointment by Metroid standards but it is still an overall great game I don't get why there's so much hate towards it I played it myself expecting it to be bad becasue of all the mixed reviews, I was so wrong the gameplay, graphics, story and level design aspects of Metroid Other M were all spot on perfect the only real thing I have against it was Samus potrail and the authorization bull.

Sakamoto, Heres a feed back: make Samus personality match what gamers for years thought Samus personality was and NOT THE PERSONALITY YOU THOUGHT MAN

Oh wow Gamespot you deleted my comment cuz you're in bed with some company for this game to sell? It wasn't in anyway trolling and had no insults or anything in it. You didn't even message me about it, cuz you knew that would raise a red flag, you just silently delete my comment. Kewl.

i loved the old games and it seems like they removed everything that was so great about them and replaced them with weird controls, annoying cut scenes, and an annoying voice.

SlickkWilly
SlickkWilly

The game was just meh. controls bad, weapons upgrade scheme bad, characters bad, length and replay bad, difficulty level extremely dumbed down easy bad, visuals worse than last game, but good cut scenes. Lose the cut scenes and clean up the environments. I wanted this game for a long time and was majorly disappointed. There is always the next one. I'm kinda worried bout zelda now.

This game was a FAIL on so many levels :( When u get that awesome rendered movie at the beginning, your thinking WOW this game is going to be epic! 1 to 2 hours into the game u just get bored. Plus, no good music in the game to set any kind of mood. No need to search for upgrades. No puzzles! No difficulty. Those things are what made metroid. They made samus like she was some cry baby or punk! This game was an EPIC FAIL.

noturfangirl

The game was waaaaay too easy! That octopus boss and that alligator ending boss was significantly LAME. Where is the F-ing metroid MUSIC?!? I'm glad wii's can be modded. $54 for a 7-8 hour game? NEXT!

Metroid other m was a waste of time. No good music, no puzzles, too short, and too EASY. This game gave me a great significant reaction, :-X Team Ninja, please do us all a favor, Leave metroid alone!

Why are some people so upset about Other M? It's not NEARLY as bad as some people say it is! I think they did a good job! Some people are just never satisfied. If you don't like it ether take it back or play Metriod Prime!

What the...? He says it is not good if every player has its own theory of Samus' personality. Let me break it to you: THAT'S WHAT MADE THE FRANCHISE GREAT. It is called "showing over telling" and "stimulating the audience's imagination". Metroid Other M totally ruined Samus' character to me.

I think Other M was a bit off. I still prefer it over Metroid prime Corruption, but I had hoped it would come close to the awesomeness of Super Metroid, which it didn't

I don't mind it when nintendo brings in an outside developer like Retro or Team Ninja to breathe new life into a franchise, in fact i encourage it. Retro did a great job with the prime series, and i really enjoyed other M as well. At the very least its good to see they didnt nerf the game like Zelda TP. I like games that i actually have to try to beat, and you can beat TP with 3 hearts and barely any trouble at all.

1. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge Other M presented. I've not played a console (not counting computer or hand-held) game where I got my character killed for lack of skill in years. 2. It's been mentioned here, but it bears repeating - Samus getting all worked up over Ridley's return (well, that, and the English voice actress - I can haz original voice track? It's got captions, I don't care what language was originally spoken!) was the only real thing about the story that made me go, "Wait... what?" By this point, she's defeated him at least three times, and while I can understand his return being awfully frustrating (that fight certainly was at first!), it shouldn't have been as much of a hang-up as it was. 3. All in all, a wonderful game. It has the challenge of the old side-scrollers while being more familiar to those (like me) who cut their story-related teeth on the FPS games. I think those with major complaints about the game play were dead-set on another easy FPS. I was itching for a new experience, and got what I came for.

I have no complains whatsoever. They did what they had to do and in the end, I was completely blown away. Sure, there are several rooms for improvement. But we must remember not to over criticize game developers to the point where they all get fed up and won't release anything anymore. So guys, lower your expectations a tad bit and look Other M, as an improvement rather than be too critical.

***It continues here*** General: No "Adam authorization" system. It literally DESTROYED world consistency. In general, remove all toyish elements from Metroid. The main problem with Japanese developers is that they create games. Western ones create experiences. Consistent worlds, believable characters, emotional bonding. The Prime Trilogy VS Other M is one of the most profound examples of this problem.Deal with it and change your game design. Videogames weren't a form of art. They are becoming now. Keep up or don't make games at all. PS: Also, no game - breaking glitches in future Metroid titles please. I was a victim. ;-)

1) Samus Personality: Dry, immature and without a motive. Metal Gear is good but the characters have motives. They have a reason to fight, to struggle and to reach the final catharsis at the end of each game. If you want to get emotional, find a motive for being. 2) Gameplay: Metroid is an adventure title, not an action one. Lower the pace, reduce the enemies and test the player's mind abilities. Easy - solved puzzles are one of the most satisfying things in videogames (and anywhere else for that matter). Primes mastered that element.Bring back the visor system ASAP. Give player temporary rewards. The removal of energy units and missile ammo was one of the most devastating decisions you could make. Again, no motive to fight any enemies. Dead Space is your example. Atmosphere: Isolation. Leave Samus alone. The main characteristic of any Metroid title (even Fusion) was that Samus was alone in a distant place with no help in sight. If you want Samus to have company, kill them all in the end.Dramatically. One more time, look at Dead Space and Batman: Arkham Asylum for references. ***It continues above***

I'd like to see the best aspects of 2D and 3D Metroid brought together seamlessly, what we have now with Other: M is very far from that. Team Ninja may have brought in some welcome additions to Metroid's combat, but the lack of player control when you go into 3D mode is annoying as hell - it's backwards game design. The new games story, while presented beautifully in CGI, has voice work which is atrociously bad, along with lifeless facial animation to match. The story holds little to no interest to fans who have grown to appreciate a silent yet heroic Samus. Give it back to Retro, retain the positive inclusions Team Ninja have brought in and move on. Nintendo should work more closely with Retro to push the series on console to it's limits ( on a current or new console), Team Ninja got ample support with this game, but I feel Retro hasn't in the past, and have still made -far- better games despite. A new 3DS game that's equally daring as Other M will be good for pushing the series in the right direction.

@Farakcalepth In theory that should work. But the execution of Samus into a character - her dramatization - was simply mishandled. Simple as that. No need to go over with such elaborate description the well-intended approach that the directors had. The *experience* of Samus was simply not as great as what was intended. It's hard enough to dramatize a character whose gender alone makes her edgy. There was too much 'introspection' going on with her this time around. And they advertised it to death. So, before saying something like: "I wanna revolutionize Metroid post-1990 NES game," these guys should more HUMBLY go over what was done with the games that followed.

Fireheart89
Fireheart89

"we wanted to revolutionize Metroid without taking away anything that made the original NES game unique." ..... What about EVERYTHING that came in between in the series since the NES original? Nothing to say about those games? I think there's a problem there.

The real enjoyment I find in Other M is that it's an incredible recapture of the series based upon its canon facts: Samus' mother was killed by Ridley right infront of her eyes; her father blew up their colony's resources and himself because there was no other way to remove the space-pirate threat from K-2L. She was raised by the Chozo thereafter, but you can imagine how estranged she felt even at that age; to have nothing and no-one all because of one person's rapacity. She tries to grasp herself but amidst being so angry with the past, too focused upon her duties as a Chozo warrior and left ultimately alone to the uncertain future, who wouldn't quake when the very object of their destruction turns up right before of them? It's not that she fears Ridley, she fears what he represents... but it probably wasn't helped by the fact that he beat the daylights out of her when they met that second time, alongside his subsequent enthusiasm to describe every visceral detail of the long-previous affair. To Samus, Ridley is the Destroyer ever-clawing at her heels, and she knows she's the only light in the universe's all-consuming darkness so she has to keep moving on. However much a memory is repressed, however tenaciously it's blocked out, it's only a matter of time before the old wounds start opening again. Samus was never born a warrior, she was made into one. And no matter how much of a badass she may be despite her flaws, Samus is still human and still bleeds as one.

The fact that there's so much disdain for Samus in Other M just goes to show how few people actually understand the character in question, or even endeavour to learn about her. The developers have admitted that in every instalment so far, the player is left to imagine Samus as whoever they want her to be, and as such they will implement their own idiosyncrasies into the 'unique' version of the Metroid tale they're experiencing. If a player hesitated whilst fighting Ridley in Norfair, then ideally Samus does too. If the player isn't fazed then appropriately Samus isn't either. The stories were allowed for personal development among its players to encourage the unlimited interpretations and affections. Conversely Other M may now limit that free perception, but I applaud the efforts of the team to finally show Samus as who she actually is. We're given the spirit of the franchise rather than just its shell, and as such I end up liking the series so much more. >>>

this game is beautiful (art) and very entertaining, it acheived this. I see the control scheme quite clever in the sense of using it as a NES controller but using the nunchuck would be wise for the next game. This is how I see it: use the control stick to move around, C to doge, B to shoot, A to swith to first person while pointing at screen and you can still move, tap A again to switch to side scrolling. left and right controll pad can be used to select missiles/beams, down - morph ball, up - X-ray, + and - to zoom in and out in both side and first person, Z to run faster and 'speed' up and don't tell us where to go next unless the players chooses to eg. easy mode.oh and more costumes.

Man I wish I wasn't so busy :? I still haven't played this game. I like what Sakamoto says though. Games development is much like many of the other design professions in that they have to incorporate many different areas of expertise into one package. Games aren't just money trees, and they aren't purely art, they are a synergy of artistic creativity and enjoyable entertainment.

How about having Sakamoto never make another Metroid game ever. That's what I want.

Other M was great, dont know why ppl are complaining. I want deeper action gameplay mixed with great shooting. I like the story emphasis too, and fleshing out samus as a character. Other M did a few things wrong but it was still great.

Shelve the worries about sexism, or the stupid fact that Samus won't use her Varia suit in a lava level because some guy hasn't said it's okay. The problem is that Samus Aran in Other M is a whiny wimp. From beginning to end, the gameplay was fun enough. But, to take just the most extreme example, why does kick-a$$ bounty hunter Samus Aran, who has defeated Ridley *multiple* times by now, go all scared-little-girl when she has to fight Ridley here? *That* is the stupidity that makes Other M the least of the Metroid games. Unless, in your mind, Samus in the other games has always been a wimpy little girl, there's no way you can't see Other M as portraying a character that *isn't* Samus!

I like the game so much. I don't care of those "negative critics", the game looks amazing with a combination of 1st and 3rd person action/adventure with Samus' melee moves and a deep story. :)

I hope the next game in the series to be like Other M, for me it's the best Metroid game since Super Metroid. And one of the best Wii games I played so far. I just don't get why people who liked the Prime series is so annoyed with this game. This is the first time Samus feels like a fully fleshed out character, not just the killing machine she used to be before, in the same vein of Master Chief, Kratos or any other mute bada** character from any other game. And about the sexist issues some people found here, I suppose that they are the same people who saw racist issues in Resident Evil 5.

The one thing no one ever seems to touch on with Other M is why did you take away the energy and missile recharges from killing the basic badguys? This is probably the biggest thing in Other M I just can't get over. Controls? Sure after enough patience with them, they are good enough. Samus Talking? Not the voice I would have used, but it works after a little while. Samus submission? it makes sense if you think about it as terms of post traumatic stress disorder... but the one fact I can't give up, why is everyone in the game pointless to shoot unless they block a door or are a boss? That bothers me a lot.

MATRIXMAN3780
MATRIXMAN3780

Yoshio Sakamoto is thinking in the direction that all gaming developers need to think. Trying something new with a franchise shouldn't be so frowned upon like it is today. People in our mainstream society are so closed minded today, it's awful. If a game isn't some masculine, steroid induced super human fighting monsters, saving the world and showing no feeling or emotion, then they hate it. Metroid other M wasn't the best game, but it was certainly a lot of fun and something new for a change.

@lexluis So he's not allowed to have control over Samus' personality, being creator of the series. So much for artistic vision, we should just please the fanbase because we want to bend it for money.
