So glad that this particular installment isn't movie based. It's almost a curse that games rarely avoid. I love hack 'n' slash RPG's so this will be a day 1 purchase for me.
Well this game certainly looks like pure s... Hey no offense to people who love lord of the rings, and other fantasy fan wankers. But it looks insanely generic So no it's not because its a lotr game. Although they were all pretty crappy aswell.
@Castillion. 'Magic' in Tolkien's universe is never clearly defined and is extremely difficult for game and filmmakers to accurately reperesent... The Ring, for example, is said to be one of the most evil and powerful artifacts in history, yet it is only hinted at vaguely on very few occasions what it was actually capable of (other than the obvious invisibility), and Gandalf never actually 'casts a spell'. If we put that aside though, I'm gonna have to correct you and say that there were a lot more characters that were capable of 'magic' during the Third Age than just the Istari... Many of the Noldor who had been to Valinor are at the top of the list with Glorfindel and Galadriel being particularly powerful (even to an extent more so than many Maiar), Elrond isn't TOO far behind amongst a host of unnamed characters... But yeah, casters are just wrong in LotR games :P PS. This game looks like turd.
I can't believe it's not coming out until November!!!! Why is almost all the games I want are coming in November? I can't wait!
November is gonna be one helluva month...11/11 Skyrim....11/15 NFS: The Run......11/20 LOTR: War In The North ....woohooo November come sooooonnn!!!!!!
Only problem for me is the level design so far, looks like lp2 (yeah the infamous one). To much open space and emptiness
I'm really looking forward to this! This year I'll be getting two great rpg's then: Dark Souls and this.
@GenGilman Guess you didn't notice the "almost" in there. There is a few games that are fun and successful that aren't rated M. Star wars battlefront, Ghost recon, and WoW... do I really have to be that specific?
WHOOO! Finally a LOTR game that is brutal! Maybe this game will be successful, any game that wants to make money almost has to be rated M
@ russianzombie I agree with you, except the human would be more of a swordsman and dps, like Gondor soldiers or rohan warriors, rather than a rogue, because rogues are often also archers in RPGs. Besides, rogue just seems degrading and all heroes in LOTR are honorable and such :P. But if your gonna sell a game like this you have to have magic or else no one but die hards such as myself will buy it. I just hope they don't overdue the magic because magic in Middle Earth is subtle and not all explosive and junk like in, say, DA or another RPG. This game is gonna be beast tho, even tho they are preset characters, which I am not a fan of. Can't wait to decapitate some orcs ;)!
@ Tano218 No way - that's not an MMO. Online play will be free :) @ Llama345 I believe the game you are talking about is Rappelz. @ slyguy65 What DA elements do you have in mind? War in the North is an RPG + hack'n'slash mixture in a closed, linear world, so I guess it differs from DA. @ claudiopedroso Yep, there will be split-screen :D Can't wait :) @ russianzombie I agree about the classic setup, because the "lore master" class is just a way to tell people "no, this wizard is not a wizard at all, really!" when most she does is spells, and we all know that in Middle-Earth wizards were like a different race altogether, and were very limited in numbers (Gandalf, Radagast, Saruman, and a few others, but not many).
@Llama345 Because Role Play, Story and Plot. Sure gameplay wise, you enjoy more, but honestly, it sacrifices a lot on character making for a very flat and uninteresting persona
Can anyone tell me the game behind the host's head? That doesn't look too bad either. I think this game is cool and I'll give it a shot, but I dont like being tied into a specific character. Why couldnt you pick to be a dwarf archer, a human wizard, and an elven swordsman?
i think the "classic" setup for LOTR would be a elven archer, a dwarven tank, and a human rogue. However, i dont really mind that much. im just glad that they are actually gonna make a rated M LOTR.
for Dordledum comment. i think its more of a based multiplayer game. but single player could possibly be good as well but your teammates will most likely be a.i
what? the elf is not an archer? why couldn't they have 4 characters, so that they split up the elf (archer) and have a seperate mage/wizard. that's 4 characters not counting the eagle
