GS News - Wii U price cut, 2DS announced and PS4 has POWER

The 2DS is not the dumbest thing I've ever seen. It's not even the dumbest thing I've seen this week. Recently, I had to explain to someone that "diplomacy" had nothing to do with making diplomas. That person was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. The 2DS is a close second.

I guess it makes sense that Nintendo would make a 2DS to justify a price cut for the 3DS and I actually kinda like the look of it. I mean weird looking devices are Nintendo's calling card so people should be used to it.

I saw a life-sized poster of the new 2DS today and actually asked the GameStop manager if this was a new form of humor. Fortunately he knows me and quipped back that it was a marketing tool to drive people to the Wii-U. Is it just me or does this pseudo tablet look like a sophomore industrial design project (one with a "D - see me after class" grade)?

I love the "full power of the PS4 in 3-4 years" comment from Sony. Don't get me wrong their use of the new AMD architecture is very interesting. I just had to laugh at the comment because that's pretty much what Sony shouted from the rooftops when the PS3 was introduced.

Nothing will change the fact that the 2DS looks ugly, but marketing wise it makes plenty of sense. It's sturdy, cheaper, and releases along side Pokemon X and Y. It's a bargain for parents with younger children. Chances are the people who care more about how it looks are the ones who are older with more money anyways. Also, am I the only one who things Nintendo was right to make the tablet a core part of the WiiU? The world does not need 3 hardcore systems. Heck the main reason the original Wii sold so well anyways was it's mass appeal. The only things I think the WiiU is doing wrong is the name (I wonder how many people think the WiiU is just a different model of the original Wii.) and most importantly, their inability to acquire 3rd part support.

It should be noted that the lower price of the 2DS is not really as low as it seems, remember these are all MSRP prices. The 2DS is new and so it will not be put on sale anytime soon, but both the 3DS and 3DS XL are frequently on sale for substantially less than their suggested price.

price cut won't help the 80% of wii owners who don't know what a wii-u is

I really think that 2ds is a marketting thing.

Imo they are releasing the product to lower the entry price of the lineup but know in the end a lot will go for 3DS.

It may look dumb but it is INDEED a smart theory.

@199$ the 3DS is relatively expensive...

But at 139$ 2DS, is close to "cheap".

So, most likely, some people who might've first found the 3ds to be expensive might end up showing interest in the new low retail price of the 2ds, then once in the store to shop will consider the 3DS a worth it upgrade from the 2DS and end up buying one!

Having a low budget item to grab ppl interest in your lineup to THEN bring them to an upsale is a very well known strategy.

Every single store tries to grab our attention in flyers with low prices to get us to upsale to a more expensive product once in store.

So considering this, nintendo might have made a smart move.

I don't think that 2DS will sell a lot but based on this theory, it might make the 3ds sales even better!

The price cut won't save the Wii U either. It should of never had the gimmicky tablet to begin with.
