@BorgMind00
apple does the same thing with music...they should just find other ways to get their product to the consumer like artists do ie concerts, retail stores, their own websites, adding bonus content in the cd case. If they were to release a downloadable version... they should be able to sell games at a much cheaper rate due to the cut of the supply chain and they would also be able to keep more of the profit. that would kill the used game market. Crap games that are the same every year or are just really short...i.e. madden, 2k, saints row etc should only be 20 bucks not 64...most single player games have no replay value and therefor will continue to be traded in unless they are much cheaper and only downloadable...but it has to be both...no one will pay 64 for a downloadable version if they can get the disk for the same price especially if they are not sure they will still want the game in a week

Mates!

This last afternoon i was in my local game store called Game mania in the netherlands.
I had preordered GTA V over there for the ps3, but on their website they stated that the pc version would release in 2014.
So when i was in store this afternoon to grab a new game for my ps3, i asked how that they could know that the pc version was to be released in 2014, since there was no official announcement from rock* themselves.

They told me back in reply that take2 interactive (rock* is part of that) had contacted game mania headquarters and that take 2 had said that the game will be released for pc in 2014..
And i think this could be true, since i know the employee that works there very well, and i know he wont lie about that :)

So, i tought that you all wanted to know this.. I dont know nothing else, but its very good news imo:)

Cheers, Mara

sometimes i just want to go on cod to whine like a 13 year old even though being 21, because, why not? people who play it are either 30 year olds who come from work and don't want to try other games or younger people who have the whole day free to get lost in the abuse, right?

@_yuriy_ On a given night 300 000 players might be online. Do you think your sweeping generalisations (I counted only two types of people who play COD in your post) apply to all of these people? Your comment is assinine

I'm so sick of this used game debate. Stop telling me what I can do with things I own. Blockbuster and game rentals are a dead industry, and still these devs whine. I am sure more money was diverted away from new purchases by rentals than ever was diverted by used game sales. one out of every 15 games I buy is used. I wait until a lot of games are being sold cheaply rather than buy when they are released. Where is the complaints about that?

There are still developers which release games with incredibly short campaign lengths if I'm expected to spend £40 on a game that lasts 7 hours with nothing else to keep me interested in playing it for longer then that's equates to £5.71 per hour cost obviously not great value.

Used game sales isn't the issue / challenge for developers it's firstly the marketing (how many games that aren't aaa do you really see advertised and how many great games do you think you've missed?) followed by providing enough entertainment to ensure most consumers don't resell in the first 30-90 days. The fewer used games in that period the more original copies people will buy.

People only sell a game because they don't like it or the game has no replay value. People only buy used games because they don't think it's worth the full price. Both of these have an easy solution, stop making crap games!

Seriously how many second hand copy's of Skyrim or Borderlands 2 (big games with tons of replay value) have you seen, I'd bet not many.

@rsawyers I don't think it's that simple. The issue here though is that GameStop will buy a game (sometimes a day old or on day 1) and give the customer $20-$25 store credits and resell the same game for $50 - $55. Not much savings to the customer but detrimental to the developer. Not really fair to profit that much from the hard work of others

@rsawyers Ummm tons of games actually. People buy brand new games and trade them back into GameStop that very same week all the time. And many of these games are arguably fantastic games worth many, many hours of gameplay.

@oldschoolvandal @rawkstar007 @natalieyan

I am not being a PC fanboy here. All the strong points between the two gaming machines is all about what do we have in each resource and what can make most out of it.

Consoles do lack some extreme graphical and powerful features that the PC can provide, but the cost are less. I have my convenience in the PC I own, providing that it is tweaked nicely. If the "couple of years" is a basis of argument, maybe I forgot "couple of years and so", meaning you will still buy a new console system once the new one arrived. But I have to admit that most of the legendary games came from consoles, so you got my real respect there. The PC, on other other hand, provided the creative powers of avid gamers you want to make most out of it, so modders and manufacturers, thumbs up.

So, I still agree on the strong points between the two, and the gamer satisfaction is still the case here.

@rawkstar007 @PeejayYeh @natalieyan Finally someone talks some sense in this PC vs Console (tired....really tired) argument!! That's what I usually try to say...but the message never gets through.

Congrats Sir, you are a rare exception.

@PeejayYeh Consoles need to be upgraded every couple of years????? Try 7 years. You shouldn't mention how much you spent on your PC 6 years ago if you're trying to prove how PC gaming "makes sense". If we assume that a console will run you around $450 every 7 years, the money you spent in 2007 could keep the console gamer going for over 54 years. Will that PC you built (as configured in 2007) be any good in 2061? The answer is no.

For the record, I own all the consoles and built an i7/GTX 770 based rig 3 weeks ago. So I'm NOT a console fanboy.

@rawkstar007 You said it best. Both consoles and PC have their strong points and whichever you choose, there's going to be something you miss out on. Thank you for being a mature individual, capable of seeing both sides. It seems you are one of the few PC gamers out there that isn't an elitist.

@rawkstar007 @natalieyan Well, I can call that investment. :D While consoles need to be upgraded as a whole system after a couple of years, PC hardware needs only several software and hardware to accommodate the needs of the game, long enough to get a brand new one if really needed. I have a $3500 worth of PC I bought 6 years ago, and with upgrading some hardware and software, it is still working perfect on high specs of any games this year. :D Well, not all gamers can afford that, I know. But the PC is just making these stories more mind-blowing. :D

@PeejayYeh @rawkstar007 @natalieyan Oh totally. I love the modding scene and, while expensive, we can up our horsepower.

That what it pretty much comes down to for why PC sits on the backburner for many developers: Expense. It's much easier, convenient, and less expensive for consumer gamers to play on a console rather than what can be a "money sink" PC. Hence the great appeal of the consoles and why they tend to get preferential treatment.

It's a very pros and cons scenario but both have their strong points.

@rawkstar007 @natalieyan At least we can up our experience through hardware and there are so many creative and modding geniuses out there to get more of the games we play on the PC. If Game selection is the problem, yes, I agree, it does suck at times. But if the developers don't put much value on the importance of PC gaming as part of their profit, they will not realize the loss afterwards.

Sorry, I am a PC gamer all the way.

@DisturbedFan789 @leviathanwing @Kelleyb4947 Hey, I made a petition. Please take the time to read through it, and if you would like please share it with whoever you know that would like to sign it. Thank you very much.

Goal: Help establish a mod-market for console games.

In an effort to form a more perfect market for both the producer and consumer, we the people hear by stand against the liquidity trap that holds our dollar hostage. We wish to incite the reclamation of our beloved culture as the forerunners to the Magnum Opus out of this oversaturated market. With us we bring hope to the crass atmosphere that envelope the developers of our fine culture and heritage. No longer will they be cut out; with your help no longer will they be lost in their proclivity. With their profit margins widened we stand. With 3rd party retailers we wage fiscal warfare. We need, and you want, a market where your developers get the funding they want and need. With such reclamation we need a leader. We ask you to bring back what was once sublime, and give us a market that we supply. Our creativity will guide us. Using the debug kits found in your new console, mods beget profits, but no one will invest. End this liquidity trap. Offer developers the security they need to support mods, make sure developers get a piece of used game sales at 3rd party retailing outlets, and we the gamers will see your coffers filled. We ask only that our skilled youth have their go, just as they will in the self-published indie game’s market.

@leviathanwing @Kelleyb4947 You're both being pretentious cunts. Microsoft keeps changing their shit and it makes some people happy, alienates others, and leaves others suspicious that they'll just go back to the original DRM. They can't get the concept that you can't please everyone all the time. As for me, **** Microsoft, I'm not convinced.
