GS News - Microsoft wants you to “ditch” your PS3 for an Xbox One; Will Halo 5 land in 2015?
Loads of Xbox One rumors popped up today including hints at new Halo games, Microsoft begin PS3 trade-in offers for Xbox One consoles, and Mario Kart 8 gets a release window!
To get LoZ: 4 Swords A.E. for free you just need to go to the e-shop on your 3DS or 2DS and click on the game icon then select download. It should be the first thing you see when you enter the shop and it will already show the price as 0.00. It's only good for one more day I believe so don't put it off.
it would be popular if the new systems were backwards compatible
If either one were that would be my definite choice.
Please MS, your marketing ploys are so old and useless and see through annnnd....you really haven't kept up with the evolving gamers, please go and grow up!
I can't bring myself to make fun of Xbox One this time around, because the level of desperation they've reached left me in awe.
Anyone remember when consoles looked interesting? I had a lime green Gamecube and a blue N64 with a plastic pikachu stuck to it. Now I can get a black console, or a special white one. Fantastic.
The Xbox one can function without a kinect, so just release a 399 version without it. People would rather play blu ray's than the fighter within.
Oh my god Gamespot! If you're going to get your news stories from Reddit at least read the comments! Everyone says that "promotion" is just a piece by some NeoGaf user (as per usual).
Ofc, MS want's PS3. It's a good console and I it's so powerful, put it in another case, install different firmware and another xbone is ready to for sale :)
I'm sure halo 5 will be great, but at what point do you consider a series stale? Even god of war, and uncharted are becoming less enjoyable with every release. Next gen / new ip's, please.
why dont MS and nintendo understand that we don't want any of this external peripherals rubbish and when we say its better without it ITS BETTER WITHOUT IT!
I would wholeheartedly look at all of those variants as long as all of them had the option for a 1TB hard drive. I don't see why that should be a problem at all. Apart from making the choice for parents and non-techy people a little harder.
oh look SonySpot wants to put their spin on a great deal....and there's SonyBot Jess to vomit out a bunch of bad puns and serve no purpose than to have people click on the SonySpot link..
Jesus, Microsoft. The Xbox One's been out, what, two months… and *already* you're fucking with the specs?!
Removing the Blu-ray drive seems foolish to me. I mean, okay, a lot of people (including me) download their games these days, so we don't necessarily need a drive to get the content onto our machines…
… *BUT*, does this move not completely surrender Microsoft's principal claim that the Xbox *One* is the *one* and only media solution needed for *one's* living room? Rip out the optical drive, and how am I gonna use this *one* device for all my media needs? DVDs and Blu-rays will apparently need to be played with something else.
This seems to be an admission by Microsoft that their machine is too expensive, and that they need to drive down the production cost to compete better with the PS4.
Typical desperate M$ BS, they're gonna force this kinnect thing on you(I don't want to and will not be talking to my console or waving my hands at it). And where's the loyalty to 360 users and make the same offer to us (not that I would take it, gone to Sony). I think it is the arrogance of M$ to just assume that a 360 user will just automatically go with the one, sorry but WRONG. At this point I would trade my 360 for a discount on a PS3. Screw Microsoft!
Firstly, why would you want an XBone with no optical drive? I know you can download the games directly if you choose but the optical drive is still useful for watching DVDs! That actually feels like it takes away from the versatility of the console!
Secondly, in order to take advantage of the PS3 to XBone offer you must first FIND a Microsoft store. I don't think there is one within a thousand miles of me, even if I wanted to give up a perfectly good PS3 with all it's awesome games for a system that has practically no games as it's brand freakin' new. This offer just might be a better sale a year from now when the library on the XBO is bigger.
I would not recommend a disc-less Xbox One to anyone. There are a lot arguments to be made, but one I firmly believe in is that it would be a disadvantage in terms of game prices.
If you shop around, look for special retailer promos and such, you can often find games for cheaper than the usual $60, even right at launch, shortly after, or even preorders. Sometimes these deals are specific to gaming, sometimes they are just anything in the store kinda deals, but either way there are often good discounts that you will not find in Sony or MS' closed digital market with no direct competition, at least not until the game gets old.
Just one example from last year, during E3 Best Buy and Future Shop in Canada ran a sale on virtually all game preorders including Xbox One and PS4. The games were 1/3 off, most games were $40, that's a pretty good savings from $60 especially considering those were preorders. Another nice thing about those stores is that during such a promo, you can make a large order picking every game and they don't charge your CC until it ships, and you can even then later decide to cancel or return the ones you are no longer interested in. You can basically lock in the price and decide later. They have run this promo in the past and probably will do it again.
That's just one example of many. Look, I think digital purchases can be great when you have a more open competitive market like with Steam keys. I guess we are starting to see some of that with PS4 game codes being available on Amazon, but so far no real competitive pricing. When you buy your games digitally from the same company that owns the platform and it's the only seller, you're never going to get as good a deal, unless like I said the game gets older and goes on sale, but byt then you might find a cheaper disc copy out there anyway.
Enjoy it while it lasts though, a purely service based gaming industry is coming (for the consoles at least), though it's probably still 10yrs away. Wow I wrote too much, sorry :).
I think I would buy the new Xbox One without the disk drive because I've always liked the idea of pure digital storage, and also there will come a day where games will be 100% digital and I might as well start now.
I'm just sayin', I was able to get my PS4 for $399 and NOT have to give up any of my old systems. Also, PS3s are still worth more than $100. The math just doesn't seem to be adding up...which is saying something because I'm about as good at math as Hellen Keller is at Simon Says.
Am I the only one that thinks Titan Fall will be a buggy pile of crap when its launched? This month has been alpha build testing and mid feb is when they're doing beta testing which gives them only a month to deal with all the bugs and polish the game I'm assuming the DLC's coming out are just things they couldn't rush out to make the date they were given.
@mbchfdh2 Wait a minute the disk drive less one will be an optional machine. If you are one of those people who just knows they will download digital if they have a choice, then it is for you. If like most other people and they will use it as a DVD player or Blu-ray player at the same time then buy the one with the disk tray.
I doubt I'd want to risk buying one without a disk tray either but it is at least moving towards the all digital future that people keep predicting.
@BillCatt666 That's too bad because the voice commands that you can use on the PS4 with or w/o the camera (using the ear bud and mic that's packaged in) works really well. Especially in games like NBA 2k14 and Tomb Raider D.E.
@BillCatt666 The same offer is for other consoles, game sites are just highlighting the PS side for flame wars, but you can take in 360 and get same discount. Main reason is that if you own a current gen you will buy new games for current gen, and the sale figures look better investors and devs see higher sales and promotes XboxOne. MS wants as many people as possible to buy Xb1 and this is a way to help lower income families to buy one.
I have a few mates which trade in games for ones tey want, they beat it pass it around, and then sell. They have no collection, and to be able to get rid of last gen and help pay for next this is something that appeals to them.
@DarkLord I love my XB1, PS4, and Wii U but I really regret trading in my PS3 to help pay for them. Mainly b/c of the incredible PS+ free games and Demon Souls 2 that I'm missing out on. I also miss all my PS3 games that I traded in at the same time.
The new consoles are great and have already given me countless hours of entertainment but I would highly suggest keeping the older systems at least for the next 6 to 12months if possible
Side Note: The closest Microsoft store to me is some 60miles away as well.
@DarkLord I was thinking the same thing, and after wondering who they would target for the product, came up with the idea that it was for multi system gamers. It will sell well if it is much cheaper, take 20-30% off the Xbox One w/drive asing price and it is a nice bargain for someone that owns other systems/PC that just want a system for exclusives.
Never play without someone who does not use a mic ever again? Is that a triple negative?
Only your squad matters and all you have to do is find 5-10 people (can almost always find 4-5 of them that wishes to play at any time), and play with them. It is not like you can hear anyone that is not in your squad. Plus there are many reasons people don't use mics and if that is the main reason for me to join, I will pass, I would not want to spend half the game muting people.
Anyone can join... except Xbox only owners, people that don't use mic, and does that don't have a facebook account.
No other group out there like us, we use mics.... umm how novel.
Not against the group, and wish you luck but a bit of advice, you want people to feel welcomed into the group and trying to bring more attention to your site page, maybe be a lot less aggressive in your advert,
@hystavito Yeah but the one glimmer of hope in that regard is, if they are seriously considering making a console which can only download games digitally, then they must also be seriously considering making digital games more competitively priced. Otherwise the entire thing will fail quicker than the Wii U because no one who knows what they are doing would do that right now, it just isn't worth it.
Steam is the target naturally but any reduction on price from the current ridiculous standard is a good step. Hell Splinter Cell Conviction is only £10 on sale today on Steam. If it was that good on console there would be no reason for me to touch PC ever again.
@tonytones21 yep if sony did that people would have to go searching high and low for a ps4 to trade up to
@ccgod Plus there's the fact that it's made by EA...
They don't have the best track record at the moment for releasing bug-free games...
@sad_dorito How do you know she is fine as a woman? did you do it?
This all digital future doesn't exist for most of the world. Most people not living close to a major city have less than 1mb/s and a low download cap. It's going to take decades before this changes.
@KidsNDad Do you really think that M$ wants to help lower income families? Your statement just prior to that one is more correct "sales figures" and they are desperate to surpass PS4 in those numbers. The problem is, it is too late for me and others like me who believe that Microsoft built the system that they wanted totally disregarding the outcry from the current gen owners. If for instance if they had not charged an extra $100 for a device that for me would be facing the wall with a rag wrapped around it, I would have stayed with the xbox1. I mean just because the kinnect must be plugged in for the system to work doesn't mean it has to be used. But I'll be damned if I would pay a dollar more to not use it the way I would.
Not to mention no dvd and this is supposed to be an entertainment system. Hilarious!!!
@Dannystaples14 I just don't see any reason for them to reduce prices. A discless console would cut competition even more as there would no longer be an option to buy disc games, all games would have to purchased through MS.
I could imagine maybe a very small reduction to make it appear as though digital has a price advantage, perhaps a standard price for new games of $54.99 or $49.99, still not as good deals as can be had with disc copies as I discussed.
Of course, in the future with service based offerings, they will probably go the way of the mobile market, to some extent anyway. Much smaller initial prices, microtransactions, perhaps subscriptions, and so on. Then you would see an apparent drop in prices, but of course the ultimate goal is to make more overall through many smaller amounts.
@Dannystaples14 hopefully i'll be retired from gaming when ALL digital hits, while i agree that it saves money (e.g no box, instruction manuals which require artwork, disc, labour and what not) ALL of the savings goes straight to the devs etc and not to the consumer, theres BARELY a price difference between buying a hard copy and buying a digital with sometimes the digital version costing a lot more, rarely once in a blue moon is the digital copy cheaper than the hard copy
and remember, if you buy a x1 without a disc drive, you can't buy pre owned games, your media centre won't play dvd/blu ray disc obviously, and i don't know the full story but some people say the mandatory game install only installs the cache or something, so your not installing the FULL game into the hard drive which is about 30+ gigs for this gen, digital copy will install the full 30+ gigs into your hard drive
and on another note, people whining about the 15 - 30mins install time, 30+ gig download isn't gonna finish downloading anytime soon if you live in an area like mine, i remember uncharted 3 was free for psn plus and that was 30 gigs it took 3 days non stop downloading to get the game, so if your complaing about 30mins install time, your in for a shock
so heres what i find hard to swallow, it takes about 3 days for me to download 1 game, with a 500 gig hard drive and every game taking up about 30 gigs, thats about 16 games, after that i'll have to start deleting games and if i want to play it again at a later time its another 3 day downlad, theres about 200 - 300 (excluding psn/xbla) games for the x360 and ps3 at the moment, and its not the end of these consoles yet, somewhere in the future there will be about 200 - 300 games for the x1 and if you can only fit 16 games in at a time, thats a pretty hard choice what to finish playing and what to play to the end and what to take off to finish at a later time, sure you can upgrade your drive
500 gb = 16 game
1tb = 32 games
2tb = 64 games
if all that don't bug you, then by all means go all out digital with your x1
unless the internet vastly improve 50 folds, world wide, all digital will be a nightmare for ALOT of people
just something for you x1 fans to ponder about
@canuckbiker Yes it won't change over night but I do feel it will eventually. Digital is just so much more convenient and cost effective. No more wasting shop space with plastic boxes that are 80% empty space. No more wasting money making said boxes.
@hystavito I kind of feel that if they even want this to have a chance of working they would need to reduce prices regardless.
I mean with the current prices no one in their right mind is going to buy an Xbox One without a disk tray. So kind of makes you wonder why they would even bother bringing one out if they had no intentions of dropping the prices of digital games.
See what I mean the diskless console will never work without a competitive price for digital games and so that to me is directly pointing to the fact Microsoft might be about to do just that. I mean even if the digital games were just £5/$5 under what the physical copies are now it would be enough to get some people on board and it will even get me to buy digital even though I will never buy a diskless console.
Honestly I think if Microsoft drop the prices to a reasonable level it will be the step towards an all digital future that will simply continue gaining momentum until we are looking back to today and saying "Hey remember when you could get games on disks. HAHAHA, Disks! What a stupid idea."
