Greatest Game Series of the Decade: The Final Rundown
It's all come down to this... get the rundown on our two finalists in the Greatest Game Series of the Decade Tournament: The Elder Scrolls and Grand Theft Auto.
How am I to take your game series voting seriously when you managed to launch it just as GTA5 launched?
Obviously people are voting for GTA since its stupidly hyped right now.
Worst ever timing.
At the time of posting this pointed to the result, however GS do have a tendency to change peoples links to point back to the page they were written on......
It was very close with The Elder Scrolls just taking it with 52.5% of the votes.
U wanna know the results?
Hard luck GTA fans!
So when GTA looses everything is put under a rug ASAP, just a link to a looser remains under a video (look left please). It seems GTA series was to win just as GTA5 is to come out. What now? Great marketing trick gone to waste. Sorry to ruin it by honest voting. Just what in the world made you think that GTA can win over ES. Great is great, but legends are legends. Now you must hide results and yourself under rug.
I am disheartened no homage was paid to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, arguably the most memorable installment of the the series.
Although elder scrolls has way superior worlds and activities not to mention the large amount of detail in every object, gta excels in a providing a compelling story revolving around the underworld which is a popular subject in the parlance of our times. And that should be rewarded.
Not really disappointed in voters, can't blame anyone for voting on games they've actually played over something they never played. Gamespot and the way they've made the poll is what disappoints me.
Next time don't say "greatest" game of the decade, say "most popular" if you really need a poll like this.
I have to call bs on this whole sham voting process. I've just counted almost 26000 votes That's 5000 more than any other round, with one day to go! Even if many are day one account troll votes, I realistically can't see this happening.
Grand Theft Auto never did it for me, I'd have had Elder Scrolls vs. Mass Effect with Elder Scrolls on top.
Though, I have no idea why they pit these two up against each other.
I don't think that the Elder Scrolls series is nearly as popular as the Grand Theft Auto series.
I think Elders Scrolls is missing something in the combat. The latest one made magic more useful and that helped beef up the combat, but when using weapons it feels so stare and click. There are no critical spots to aim for or different ways to swing to bypass shield, or ways to block their weapon with yours...
If GTA wins, I will have lost all faith in gamers. Who am I kidding; I lost it when Half-Life got knocked out of the running.
TESV is a lot like a open world to create your own legend, allowing mods to tweak the visual appearance of pretty much anything, which summarizes into a game custom-made to one's liking.
GTA has a completely linear main storyline for those wishing to experience rather than fantasize, while adding little sidelines to make the game more interesting. NPC and main char reactions/catalogue are much more humorous in comparison as well. The game itself is already extremely packed with details that modding is not really required, personally I work towards 100% completion without cheating, before starting a new game with mods to humor myself =)
On the overall scale, GTA is a memory of real life; TESV is a fantasy. I'm voting for GTA because when I compare the clean package of each game, TESV has left more unsatisfactory gaps requiring filling than GTA.
al right. I'll give you that JJB03. It's been a loooong time since I played gta so I wouldn't know. But I thought that gta isn't easy to mod/change compared to skyrim?
Like I said, I'm completely ignorant about just what sort of mods there are for any GTA game but are they comparable in number and quality compared to mods for oblivion and skyrim? I KNOW that quantity isn't everything, and there are a LOT of crappy mods out for skyrim that break the game then that they fix it.
I don't get what they mean by the bugs thing though. I mean, the console version I don't know nothing about. I wouldn't touch the console skyrim game with a ten meter pole. TES games was meant to be played on pc period.
Not on xbox or on a playstation console but I digress as I don't want to steer this into a childish debate about this or that sucks compared to that. I acknowledge that skyrim had more then a few difficulties when the game first came out and it's true that the dev's cut out more then a few features because of a lack of time. But the majority of the bugs have been solved for the pc version at least. And if not, then there is very likely to be a solution for it one way or another.
GTA might be more fun, but TES has one ace in the hole that GTA doesn't have. Mods. Mods and more mods. And they still KEEP coming!
GTA is just more "fun". That can't be duplicated to any real level. So the copycats make the games goofy. Now with the elder scrolls you can get that fix from a few other great RPGs I vote GTA
I truly don't understand the hate the fans of each of these games give to each other. Both are long running sandbox games with a great history and still produce great content. Why can't you just vote for what you prefer and be done with it? Just because you're more familiar with one game over another doesn't make the other game bad.
I'm voting Elder Scrolls because it has to be my favourite series of all time, and I just never put in the time to play GTA, though I'm sure it's an excellent game worthy of being in the final or even winning.
@AimDeVine The 5th of never....the whole tournament was a ruse to gain more forum posters(hello) and bring un-needed hype to gta5.
@qewretrytuyiuoi I'm guessing that the only reason GTA got that close to winning was because of hype for GTAV. I know GTA games are fun, but The Elder Scrolls is on a whole other level of gameplay and customization.
@homeless_bob Skyrim wins!
@homeless_bob ES I do believe, by 6% of the votes last I saw.
@areeque Vice City was the first GTA game I played from the start and actually tried to get into. My god that game was repetitive, lacklustre and boring. The ones that followed aren't any different.
@Baron_B You're kidding me. They're the complete opposite of quantity over quality, in all aspects.
@Baron_B GTA is the very meaning of quantity over quality. TES is fantastic. Mass Effect deserved the win though..
@BradBurns That's what bothers me the most. It isn't nearly as popular at all. But all these nerds from Elder Scrolls still have an advantage right now on the poll. I know that GTA totally destroys Elder Scrolls, but i just can't believe that Elder Scrolls has a voting advantage right now. People should have knows better. I mean come on..
@Act_Chill Elder scrolls has been missing everything really. It has many features but seriously everything is so underdevelloped. In the end only the story is that matters.
The combat in the series has always been lie that, I think.
Magic is always the easiest way to play the game.
I think even Demon's Souls made this mistake. All the breaks are given to the Magic users.
@bourne2live PC modding heaven. :)
@mercenary17 Skyrim on the PC all the way!
I've replayed Skyrim 4-5 times and all this time I didn't know it had many bugs :-) The few bugs that I've known about are easily fixed with mods. Even when the game first came out, I thought it was near perfect and couldn't be better. Now I always play it with several essential mods from Nexus that fix minor bugs and improve the UI.
@mercenary17 When Skyrim first came out, I thought it couldn't be better. Now after years of new mods, I can't imagine playing the game without several essential mods that fix some bugs and improve the UI. When I played GTA IV, I didn't even know there were mods for it.
@mercenary17 the only think that TES has is bugs bugs and more bugs.... and if one geme is more fun than another its simply BETTER
@mercenary17 gta has mods that still come, he said so in this video, but what GTA doesn't have is Elder scrolls RPG elements, interactivity and depth of explorable environments, which will probably win it over in the end.
@Shalidor I fully agree with the first paragraph. But regarding the last paragraph, it's completely the opposite: I'm voting GTA, because that's my favorite. I never really played Elder Scrolls, though I'm sure it's a great game series. :P
@chillas99 GTA is on PC you foo lol
@chillas99 half assed? Really?
@PartyGavinParty But how? The majority of quests are the same (except the Daedric Artifact quests, those are great), the majority of dungeons are the same, there are bugs and glitches aplenty, etc. I like what Bethesda is trying to do, but I feel like they're trying to do too Much.
@dani_i89 TES games have clunky combat, copy and paste fetch quests, stiff animations, bad story/script/voice-acting, dumb AI, and are full of bugs... Only if mods counted would it have a CHANCE for best series of the decade. They should take some notes from From Software.
