Call me slow, but I have yet to understand how the gameplay is besides how you can change jobs. Is it basically like a tales game where you can move around and attack in real time or is it turn based like the old final fantasy's or both?
@zidan4000 You got it all wrong. He meant that in XIII, it's not only about mashing the X button (like some people, wrongly, state). There is some strategy to it. He never mentioned other FFs. :P^ Oh and about the summons rambling. You don't summon vehicles, you summon the "epic monsters", the only difference is that you have the additional option to "join" your character with them (ie, Snow has Shiva as his Summon.. In Gestalt mode, she turns into a bike.. Lightning has Odin, which in Gestalt mode transforms into a horse-like figure).
I miss the old battle systems like in FF VII, VIII, IX.....this looks interesting and i will give it a go but if it is anything like XII i will be let down. How great would it be if they remade FFVII...not the story line but just the graphics and weapons...FFVII for PS3 would be amazing.
@ Kou-Nurasaka what do you mean by mashing X? FF games were very strategical and you control every character on your own unlike FF13 where you only give orders and hope they do the right thing , dont you remember the days when using every character for a specialty? vivi for black magic, dagger to heal, and stiener for melee , now tell me thats not strategical.
@zidan4000 - I too stopped playing through the FF series when I felt it was playing itself. The more linear it became, the less intriguing the games became to me. Combine that with irritatingly obnoxious voice acting, childish characters, predictable story (all traits of a great JRPGs) and I stopped caring about the graphical progressions. I think why I recall enjoying FF1-7 so much vs. newer JRPG's, because it was like reading a book and playing a game at the same time... Old school junky graphics, but the story was left to my imagination and for me to discover. FFXIII does intrigue me, and like every other FF fan, I'm stoked when I see a new FF is going to come out. I will always give a FF game a play, even if my expectations for personal enjoyment have diminished over the years.
Its different, but maybe we should wait until everything is finished before we start making judgments. The game hasn't the states or Europe yet, so I will refrain from any brash judgments. I can say it looks fun and fast paced, and an actual strategy looks more important than just "mash X".
Well I guess they're trying to make this game different from the old final fantasy games. I really do miss the original summons, bahamut looks nothing like a dragon, I'll admit, and I loved the summons in FF III and IV on the DS those were awesome. I still look forward to the game but I might not get it for a while, I'm getting Disgaea 2 first.
battle system looks crap. would prefer if it was like lost odyssey. summoning cars...... very very stupid odin has been created by a 3 year old. bahamut is now a megazord wtf i was expecting power rangers to be jumping on screen. i will be getting this game but i hope it doesent majorly fail like infinite undiscovery.
As much as i hated FFXII now i can't play it, but sometimes i would like to play just for fun (even though it did not offer any) but i think that this battle system is just trying to combine the classic FF Battle system with that of FFXII, which i think will definetly be better.
Any real gamer will tell you there are no bad games, only bad standards or egos. This game doesn't thrill me as much as FFXIV does, but I will get it because I enjoy evolution. If you don't bend, you break. "Back in the good old days.." *rolls eyes* It's not the games that are changing, its the gamers.
and yeah i forgot to say that the idea of summoning vehicles is dead stupid , what happened to the bad @ss ifrit? shiva?bahmut? oden? he was my favorite, them putting vehicles and some machines instead of actual epic monster summons is beyond me. if you still dont understand then go back to FF8 and imagine summoning oden or bahamut in full HD updated graphics.
as an old veteran player of FF series since the 90's , something is telling me that FF13 is not gonna be like the old games in the series , to me Final Fantasy series died a long time ago because its not made by the God Father of Final Fantasy anymore , Hironobu Sakaguchi , and the last good Final Fantasy game was 9 , 10 had a good story but Tidus and Yuna were very annoying and remixing the theme song into every level is just boring , i never played 11 , and 12 was a game that played itself. still oddly enough i will keep track of FF13 and see how it lives up to the hype when it releases in march.
i like the ff series in general, except ff12. . one of the dullest stories with a whimp of a main character (small time loser) who couldnt get the girl. ff13 looks like it might have a good story but the combat system could either make or break the game, so far it looks like it could be way to simplistic, like a monkey could do it since u can play on auto pilot. The paradigm shift or w/e they calling it, isnt that just a way of changing what type of mode your character is in depending on the fight conditions? Maybe i'm wrong but in that case why didnt they just use the Tactics System from the SO series. . Don't hate on this just cuz ur hyped up about the game. . a lot of ppl got hyped up about ff12 and got dissapointed
As glad as I am to hear updates about FFXIII, I am more interested in FFVersusXIII, and they are not telling us any more about it.
I'm gonna get it for sure but the question is will this get me to play it for more then 30 min since FFVII none of FF was able to make me do that without getting bored to death not saying they wasnt good but the style changed to much since old final fantasy and kinda get me off.
Entirely new battle system ? damnit....that's what kept me from beating FFXII, stop with the new BS and go back to FFX
lol@fire-afro..Agreed. My wallet aint gonna look so good either. But at least it will be money well spent.
@TheoleDominion: I see, then allow me to apologize mate, I'm very sorry. @memrie: I agree, I prefer top-down perspective JRPGs I loved FFIII! That was one of my favourites. I could never beat the final area though. The only thing I'm upset about is since I'm getting DIsgaea 2 I won't have enough money to buy FFXIII until a few weeks after its release, maybe even more... ah, the joys of having an empty wallet.
What angers me most is that I hate the visual direction the series took since 8. (Except for 11... pretty boys, but it looked like 6), but technically speaking, the graphics are always incredible and the gameplay and arrrrgh... I don't want to want this game. Let's put it that way. REMAKE OF 6 FT(potential)W!!!
@game-on-man im kinda sad you didn't play any other FF game ( FF1-10 are absolutely amazing and 12 is not so bad) but as a person who has played every Final Fantasy and waited on the release of many Square Enix games (especially the Kingdom Hearts series) I have this 2 say: If you enjoy FF13 and look forward 2 the next one, remember this wait and be prepared to go through another (probably even worse) one.
Man this game is going to great. The battle system looks beautiful. It would be nice to have more space in the fields but, eh, no game is perfect. I hope they create another game with a battle system similar to FF7, 8, or 9. Oh BTW, do any of you happen to know if they will remake FF7? Or (if the people of Square Enix decides to bless us) FF8 and FF9?
@atopp399 I can't agree more! I would love to see a top down, free roaming world once again in a JRPG, with updated graphics. My favorite game is still US FF3. A close second is the original Chrono Trigger and third would be the original Dragon Warrior. I can still play those games and enjoy them, but I can't get in to the more modern and linear JRPGs, I don't hate them, they just aren't my style and I quickly get bored with them. But I'm happy for all the peeps who are looking forward to this newest FF game.
@kazinsky1 have you played FF6 before? This isn't the first time that SE puts a female character as protagonist.
@ fire-afro - There's nothing wrong with robots, they could just as easily made it a completely new creature altogether..not change fan-favorite ones they didnt need changing..anyway I am excited about the game and just having a little fun with SE. It was just my way of letting them know "if it ain't broke, dont fix it." there's more important things fix..like..the voice-acting, character animation, the voice-acting and tweeking the combat-system, the voice-acting or voice narration, and most of all making sure that the story is very deep and compelling. But all in all I'm a avid FF fan, but when I see them doing something I dont particular care for..I'm gonna let them know. Besides if this new and "improved" cyber-Bahamut dyno-thrusters or protonic energy shields starts to malfunction, who's gonna foot that bill? The old dragon-form Bahamut was so much simpler and real, just feed him a couple of republicans..er.. I mean chocobos and he's happy...lol. Oh by the way, did I mention voice-acting?
Kazinsky1, uh, no offense, but... well, don't you think it's a bit sexist to say "play characters such as menstrual chicks"? I know what you mean by the "pre-teen cheese *****" as I don't like snow or hope but lighting isn't that bad; most rpg's I've played feature a male as the main character and a few FF games follow that too. I think it's good to see a female main character. But, eh, each man to his own right? For TheoleDominion I just wanna say that's a little unfair isn't it? I think that even if the machines aren't welcomed by most people (which it looks they will) then good for Square enix for making the step and changing it around a little, and I'm sure there's more than one person out there who will agree with me, although you are right about JRPGs falling behind. Those red rings are a pain though... Well I'm really looking forward to it. Who's with me?
I'm glad the main character selection the final fantasy series offered us in the beginning were badass characters like Cloud, now we get to play characters such as a menstrual chick and pre-teen cheese dicks. Weak.
Instead of Final Fantasy, why not call it Final Power Ranger Transformer Thingy game?..oh I forgot.."and Fantasy"...lol. I wonder once I put my game in, my x360 will transform into a robot too with the flashing "red rings" on the chest..LMAO I'm kidding Microsoft...well...until it happens...lol P.S. Hey Square Enix! I hope you're sending batteries with the game when it ships...we'll need a remote-control too..you know...for all the R-O-B-O-T-S you put in the game...lol..WARNING: This message will self-destruct 10 nano seconds.
ok big-boss-91, I bet u think this is an awsome game so ur bying it for ur "brother" but actually u want to buy it for urself.... dont deny it u love it
Make a Final Fantasy 1-6 type game with modern graphics and I would totally buy it. Otherwise I think the real Final Fantasy died long ago.
while the battling looks confusing at first I sort of find it hard to believe at what so many people are confused about. It might just be the speed of the battle or the many numbers of damage being dealt, I'm not sure, but I think that even though it will take some getting used to the system isn't too complex, it's just too fast (at first) for most people to keep up with, but this is just my opinion. For those who could understand the woman speaking and for those who know how the system basically works, you'll understand that you'll only have one character to focus on at a time, and that you only ever have to worry about that character (if they die it's GAME OVAH PEOPLE!!!) and even if that's too much you can even set it to "auto-battle" where the character you control has AI-like properties like your teammates, and the AI is supposed to be very good. I don't know why a JRPG or even an RPG fan would want to set it to auto battle though; I think the battle system looks awesome!!! @game-on-man: I agree making us wait to build suspension is just making people impatient they should just give it to us already. I WANT MY AUSTRALIAN YUN FANG!
I can't wait! And this doesn't look too complicated, like other posters have mentioned. Yes, while it seems to require some planning and thought, it seems very manageable and more importantly, fun. And thats what RPG's are about. This isn't a button masher people!
Revolutionary.... alls it takes is one person to have the guts to change gaming style for the better, if you dont try then it never changes!
I wish they would just ship the damn game already, If its finished; then let us buy it already. what are they waiting for????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
