Two of my mates partners are 30 year old females that are casual smart phones gamers, I've been around their houses and seen them play for hours at a time, they play puzzle games; Candy Crush and another other one about lining up rows of lawns, trees, houses and castles. It breaks my heart that they spend so much time playing such simple, addictive games like that instead of putting that time into classic with a really great story and / or gameplay, a couple of personal favourites are FF7, Deus Ex and Braid, if only I could find a nice looking girl that plays a range of deeper games instead of being addicted to soul sucking MMO's or basic games like Flappy Bird...I think I'd be in heaven.
I have to agree with Jonneh. Why hate on a game just for getting a bit of spotlight? I still play flappy bird along with Skyrim or Mass Effect. To me, the whole point is to play games, no matter the medium or popularity. Go out and game, people!
That was one of the best Feedbackula's they've done yet... well done!! very amusing...
fact: There is a lot of douches out there!
I don't hate this game because I think my taste is better. I hate it because this shit game gets as much attention as Skyrim, and that hurts the game industry. How can 60$ compete with free? Will I someday stop seeing good games being made?
I agree with your commentary. You make an excellent point and it was entertaining too.
But if I were someone who didn't agree with it, I'd respect your opinion and find it amusing and entertaining anyway.
What an inspiration!! Making $50,000 for a Flappy Birds / Crapy Birds "game" app.
I want to learn those skills.
So Johnneh... you complain about people complaining... how are you any better than any of these people, exactly?
Well Johnny when you are frankly "acting" oblivious to the real reason most core gamers hate it then you are just being a freakin sell out to make sure you get hits. As usual. But then again you revealed just how low you can hit with the GTAV deal. You love twisting facts. Honestly your no better than some lame journalist trying to get hits or worse...fox news.
The REAL reason core gamers hate seeing casual crap get popular is because copiers/profiteers then over-saturate the market with anything they can to try to get money. Whatever makes a bucketful of cash influences our little gaming industry....often quite negatively.
The Wii(it's success), facebook games, CoD(CoD4 and above) , and shovelware are all results of trying to milk this influence as much as possible.
The more it happens , the more shitty games come our way. So excuse us if we don't want things such as, anything that the casuals find popular, influencing our very greedy gaming industry.
I mean thank god i am a PC gamer who picks up consoles for exclusives so i have tons of options but it is still sickening.
I think many gamers are really shit bags thinking they are supperior because they are "hardcore" gamers ... what a load of shit really. I started playing games on a fucking Atari 2600 and shit many of those games were ridiculously hard and stupidly simple to play and guess what ... they were addictive !!! Now they try to make "experience" and whatnot with their beautiful gaphics but the games is still shit and not Worth a replay.
I really don't know what happened between the PS2 era and the Xbox360 but a lot of shit came with it.
I didn't realize there was so much hate towards the game. I thought this was going to be about rage towards the shut down.
I don't have a problem with the game itself, or even the the developer's decision to take it down, I'm just really tired of hearing about it. It's a story that people are going to get over pretty quickly, and it hasn't really had any significant effect on the industry as a whole. And honestly, the ones to blame most for that are the news sites (Gamespot certainly included), because they simply can't ignore a controversy no matter how minor it is. The people that just keep throwing fuel in the fire aren't helpful either. It's been blown way out of proportion in the media, essentially, and that is aggravating to me.
As far as criticizing the game, I don't see a problem with that either. People are more then welcome to have and share their own opinions, although certainly most of the comments featured here are more vitriol then valid criticism and that is a problem.
I can't stand the people that bash this game. It's simply fun and test your ability to time jumps. And to all those people mad because he made money and the pipes look like they were from Mario STFU please why the F do you care about that. Some of you people make no goddamn sense and disgrace all other gamers. A free mobile game... Free mobile game. Yaw just suck at the game that's why your mad.
The owner of the game pulled it because he claimed it was too addicting and he felt guilty for doing that to people. Johnneh, you forgot to mention the ONLY interesting thing about the story, the thing that precipitated the controversy in the first place.
We're the pretentious douches?
The guys at roughy 3:18 has a point.
What has casual gaming done for many 'hardcore gamers'? (the old casual gamer group of the 90's to early 00's is no longer seen as casual due to super casual mobile gaming over the last couple of years)
We've started to loose the complexity of previous generations of gaming many loved.
Admittedly mobile gaming has always been casual. It's when developers and companies such as Sega and EA use graphs and figures to decide their games direction. Just look at SimCity, Total war Rome II and CIV 5. All these games where intentionally dumbed down by the developers.
Developers always say the game is not being dumbed down but merely being made 'more accessible' to new gamers. Fine, I understand that, but current fans of series suffer and buy a newer game under false promises of improvement. What they normally get in reality is less features and less immersion, but hey!!! It's all fine because you no longer have to do X,Y or Z and there's fancy new graphics!
Who do I blame as a hardcore gamer? Filthy Casuals!
Perhaps all the indignation stems from an innate fear that, as is often the case, we'll be surrounded by a million flappy clones, all aiming for the $50k a day, at the cost of.... Oh fuck it. I've been sucked in like everyone else here. Daaaamn yooouuuu jonneeeeeeehhhhhh
Guys, you should really figure out a way (be it cookies or something) to update your videos and for us to know which episodes we haven't watched
Meh. Take what you will, but I still feel it's barebones as ever for a game be worth my time ("app" comment nails it imo) =\
Lol I play anything from Portal to FTL to Flappy Bird. I think it's insane to get pretentious about games, particularly when the only people who think games are something to be pretentious about are "hardcore" gamers. Thanks for the words of reason Johnny!
I suppose long-time user makryu finally gets his opinion highlighted, but not in a way that vindicates him. ;)
if you are a hardcore gamer you should feel pleasure on playing every single game from every single platform. including mobile games.
fake hardcore gamers that talk shit about other platforms are not real hardcore gamers.
If you are a real gamer, you should be happy playing an 8 bit game to a battlefield 4 kind of game.
@Refraction are you unable to eat healthy food?, unable to eat palatable food? only because Mc Donalds sells billions of shitty burgers every day? No.
And be frank, can you honestly say you've never had a mc burger your entire life? how many hardcore gamers do you think could make that claim?
@whatsazerg Johnny does this for a pay check. When you get paid to do this you can have dumb rhetorical questions like this thrown at you all day too. Johnny's work contributes some conscience and humor to an otherwise hormone and adrenaline driven community of hardcore gamer douchebags. (Don't worry I'm not excluding myself from the douchebaggery - I'm guilty of it too).
Thanks Johnny (and GameSpot) for this show!
<rant>Everyone should see and hear how stupid they sound when they post flippant comments (or even seemingly well thought out ones).</rant>
@WolfGrey You had me going along with it until you said the Wii. The Wii had some great hardcore games. It just became popular with families and the like.
@Coco_pierrot I don't think I'm superior just that mobile games suck.
@Coco_pierrot You obviously don't understand. We're not mad that it's not hardcore. We're mad that it's a ripoff of other games which then gets mass produced as other ripoffs of the same game simply because it was popular, polluting the industry. Ever hear of Helicopter? Same exact thing as Flappy Bird long before it even existed. Whether you believe it or not, games like Flappy Bird ARE ruining the industry. Why would we think we are superior just because we play different games? It has nothing to do with superiority.
@aci808 True Statement.
"Made money" "free mobile game"
Don't have to say much here.
@baldeagle91 just create a buzz word that didn't exist before the Xbox360 came out ... it is stupid and only a mean to separe people and put them into little box to feel Superior because you sank every buck and sank every minutes of your precious time on gaming so you need the best graphics possible because you know it is fucking important even if you'll barely finish the game ...
what a bunch of dumb ass ...
You play games ? if yes you are a gamer end of the story
Sure there is, HARDCORE gamers are the ones who agree with you, CASUALS are the ones who don't.
Like Fanboys and Trolls, or whatever idiocy the hairy palm brigade comes up with this week to promote segregation and deliberately shrink the marketplace while alienating anyone without a y chromosome.
@HuSSaR83 I think it's the other way around. Vikings look like Johnny.
Wasn't the point. How many people here gonna miss it?
Create a buzzword? Errr no casual gamer is a term that's been around since around the 80's.... aka non stereotypical gamer who plays video games for small periods of time... still get those people, but you now have mobile gamers who are put under the same bracket even though a few can (and do) spend many hours a week on such devices.
Ignore my main point...
My main point being games being aimed at casual gamers is having the negative side affect of affecting the quality on games that traditionally are not casual games as the developers and publisher want a 'piece of casuals gaming's pie'
You play games? If yes your a gamer? Rubbish!
I would hardly call an 80 year old who plays wii bowling once a month down the pub a gamer -_-
My nan played red alert for the PC once. Did that make her a gamer? no.
