what i want out of D&D is pool of radiance with better graphics more stuff, more loot and a better story with a better final boss. pool of radiance is awesome and i still think the graphics are pretty amazing, every couple of years i feel like taking that 100 hour journey again. This game isnt what im looking for.
Atari owns the right to the D&D license. This looks like a kind of sequel to D&D: Heroes, released in 2003 for the Xbox, PS2, and GameCube. At the time that game was kind of fun to play co-operatively with 3 other players. This game looks to have the same type of gameplay (although any co-op is undetermined), but is dated right from the get-go, as if there haven't been many enhancements in game development over the last 8 years. I'm not interested in dice, rule books, and dungeon masters. But this looks cheesy, and unfortunately a waste of what should have been a classic and classy franchise. Another one appears to bite the dust. * sign *
Meh! I'll pass, thanks anyway Atari. That trailer was so boring I could hardly muster the interest to type a comment.
Honestly. It would be better to make a 2D dungeons and dragons game that does exactly what the actual game does. The game should be online, contain character sheets, DM guide, and Monster manual. It should come with a 2d engine that allows the DM to make 2d maps of the world/ area, dungeons and the like. DM can add/create items, place NPC's and throw in monsters anytime. Add voice chat and bam, you have an actual DND game online....and its 2D, simple to make. All of the above would STILL sell more then this piece of ****
@Otton_Carlos I haven't played those games, but I will look into them. I am not trying to say that they lack creativity. I am just saying the way that the story is created is completely different from an actual role playing session and takes away the elements that truly make DnD.
@Serp3ntarius I still think it takes away some of the connection just by not having that person sitting next to you. Chilling with your friends, eating some pizza, role-playing, that is what DnD is about. A single player game told by the developers just doesn't feel like DnD.
oh well... A game I won't buy, not even wanna play it, and will be given for free at Steam until the end of the year... Save your time Atari, and release it for consoles only; this is obvious your REAL target audience.
@MasterOfSprites: I think you never played Baldur's Gate in your life. How can you say that eletronic RPG games dont have creativity, where from these stories come from? There is still lots of fun and imersion in some RPG games like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale.
Haha. This game looks horrible. As a long time D&D fan I always pay attention to related video games ... but this looks like something from 2003.
@MasterOfSprites: What do you think about the entire Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale/Neverwinter series then?
No offense Atari but it seems that quantity over quality is definitly the main issues for your company! When I look at Test Drive Unlimited 2 which is one of their last game produce, I can belive how they survive in a world where graphics are so much important. Atari is one of the first video games company out there, but I understand why they are not so much popular over the years!
Once again you are destroying Gary Gygax name buy putting a crappy and i mean crappy hack and slash game to gether just for profits Atari... I can't believe this was all you could come up with having the license from D&D. Hope you fail.
@MasterOfSprites: The Dungeon Master is the developer team that created this game, it's just that they're not directly sitting next to you. And the stories are created with imagination, just that, in addition to story bits being read by the dungeon master, they're also shown to you visually. It's like the translation from book to movie.
What is the point in D&D if you are not role-playing with other people, the dungeon master isn't human, and your stories aren't created with imagination. Doesn't creating a video game spoil some of the actual charm of the game?
what are these silly games?!!! Please learn from your master Santa Monica of how to make great hack and slash games
@Rush_Gremlin, if only... perhaps then it might have been like Morrowind. The graphics are from 5 years ago, the gameplay appears to be 15 years old.
Well whats the point of playing if i can't create my elven wizard, and get forced to play a halfling wizard ? The game looks good, but it uses the wrong name. Anyway, not getting it. Btw was that throat singing in the end ?
