the game is awesome, but you can't see his feet! you look to the ground and it feels like you are flying :S
@jmace1 ...That being said, I'm having a hard time picking out the "renaissance inspiration" in a lot of the screenshots and videos as well. :D I get the overall thought of bio-mechanics possibly being similar to the medical and scientific breakthroughs of the renaissance but I don't see theme so much in the actual gameplay footage.
@jmace1 My impression was just that they were making changes to the model over the course of the game's development in general (i.e. 2 years). I'm sure they were working on other models, etc. during this period as well. Overall, this video makes me feel like there was a lot of deep thought that went into the art and visual design choices in the game... which, IMO, is more than we can say for a lot of the games that come out these days.
The game looks promising.I had only played the first Deus Ex and it was good and the enviroonment was sci fi too so it was good.
I really don't see any of this renaissance inspiration in the art style. The game, for better or worse, just seems to have a blade runner inspiried aesthetic. And it is just a waste of time to spend 2 years on any character model especially with the end product looking like it does now (leather jacket, metal arms, dark hair, and sun glasses took you 2 years?!). This interview deeply concerns me about what the final product will be like for this game.
this game is a prequel so I don't think you have to worry about the story in the other games. But I hoping they have somewhat similar themes, the first Deus Ex had a lot of conspiracy plots and the like, it was really awesome to listen to the dialogue, though it was often too spaced out. Just read in GS's recent preview they've included a more prominent story, so, could be great!
Although I may feel kind of worried about how DXHR will turn out, my hope is that I am wrong to do so and that it will give other game developers the incentive to begin offering many hybrid titles rather than single genre games, like FPS-only games, as one example. Imagine how awesome it would be to see COD, Battlefield, and Gears of War offer RPG and stealth elements, in addition to just pure shooting gameplay.
mmm...itching to get a 30" IPS monitor to play this in 2560 res with accurate color-reproduction (maybe I don't need to get that new apartment after all...)
I think they pushed the art design in *just* the right direction. Sure the minimalist design looks really good and futuristic, but actually, we all know that's not what the future going to look like. People are still going to have THINGS in the future, and they're probably still going to be lying around their office/apartment/room. At least, in 2027. That's only 16 years.
From a technical perspective the game isn't anything to write home about but the art design looks amazing. August can't come fast enough.
