Rocket took 3 months off to climb the Mount Everest. In the meantime the small team took Ivan Buchta from the Arma 3 team and they are sloooowly progressing, as it seems from outside. I have no confidence, that this game will ever be 'finished' or polished. DayZ in April, May, June 2012 was the most exciting video game of all video games. Now, they are trying to make a little money, but it seems too late? Other games caught up. DayZ today is fractured. It is many different games (look at the servers). Standalone might not change that. (= CS 1.6 is still the best CS. CS:GO = no go.)
Teleporting speedy zombies! If that was a zombie outbreak everyone would probably be dead in minutes! :(
DayZ is actually quite fun once you get your pc well adjusted enough to run it. Granted it's laggy and has tons of bugs, it's only the alpha phase. It has changed dramatically from when I started to play it. The mod has been out for a while now, was kind of a major underground gem, but now the spotlight is on.
Well I'm disappointed. I know it is pre alpha. But it won't change much. The zombies and bugs and stuff will mostly be polished. But it looks so arcadey and ... War Z like hahah :P
Why does this look so awkward? I'm just really disappointed, this was the first gameplay I've seen of Day Z.
@crystalredearth This is BEFORE alpha. And this isn't even a showcase. This is simply the current state of their development, which still has a long way to go.
The original mod was very innovative. But you can't really say this isn't just because it is too similar tot eh mod. Think of the mod as a prototype for this game. It is still at it's core the same game, but making it standalone allows them more freedom to create the exact experience they want to make.
@DefiningFactor It's suppose to be a simulator genre. Not Call for Dead Too Fast Paced and Shit 5 gameplay. SURVIVAL, get it? Not overpowered and speedy.
@sethfrost It doesn't have many different games, it has many different custom versions of the mod; Epoch, Breaking Point, DayZ+, etc. And might I add that every single one of them are horrible and completely contradict what makes DayZ. And neither of them are played anywhere near as much as the original mod.
@sethfrost It's still pre-alpha buddy. Don't count your zombies before they are dead.
The bulk of game developement is done BEFORE Alpha.
First of all you have Pre-production which involves: concepting; planning; creating all the documentation and schedules; making sure the team has all the necessary equipment, staff, and resources; and even creating a prototype.
Then you have all the other actual production that is pre-alpha. The alpha and beta stages come towards the end of the Production phase. The game goes Gold when it is finished and a master copy is made - which is then sent off for copying and distribution.
Then there is post-production,which involves patching and maintaining the game after it has gone Gold. This is why some games feature day 1 patches. There could be weeks between going Gold and the actual release of the game. And if the game has a release date, it needs to be submitted on time, or be delayed. But if some bugs can be fixed during distribution, it's not really worth delaying the game for.
I probably explained way too much, but I think more people should understand the development process before making judgements. I'm not saying you are specifically, but there are other in this comment section that are.
What were you expecting? For it to be like a AAA title or for it to add a ton of new content/modes and stuff?
Think of the original mod as a prototype for this game. With this standalone version they get to polish it, add new content, adjust older content, and improve things like the GUI and other game systems.
There is only so much you can do with a mod. Making a standalone game will allow them to make the exact game experience they want to.
@Deadpool-n That makes sense because War Z was based on the DayZ mod for Arma 2, but where War Z failed DayZ has plenty of time to flourish.
@eyehategod420 It is a pre alpha build so it is going to look very very rough
@TKavney92 @Deadpool-n You misunderstand. I'm saying it looks near as crappy as War Z gameplay. I'm simply comparing it to War Z, not saying it is based off of it. It looks like a downgraded version of the mod in terms of gameplay.
@Deadpool-n Both suck enough said
