The biggest mistake in Crysis 2 isn't graphics, story, or setting, but how the feel of the game changed. Even on the pc, it mostly plays like any popular console fps instead of having the fast-paced free-flowing movement we have in the original Crysis.

Cry sis 2 is in DX9 a scale down from the PC which was in DX 10! Consoles are DX9 tha ts why you do not get as good in graphics and game play! I wish the console developers would get there act together and make consoles in DX 11 so you could do more stiff in game play for mul ti-platform games!

Crysis 2 with dx 11 does look really good with all the effects it has but i still don't think it looks better than crysis 1. I did sort of like crysis 2 but again the gameplay is just not as fun as the first 2, picking up a korean and throwing him threw a wall never gets old.

I don't know what to think which is better.

I was dissapointed with Crysis 2. Main reason why is because Crytek decided to make the graphics not as good as Crysis and Warhead just to fit it on consoles. Couldn't they have made it so that PC had the Crysis and Warhead graphics, while consoles had the actual Crysis 2 graphics?

Not every game can be revolutionary. Nintendo tries that and...well, WiiU is the "solution". There has to be some time before the next leap is made.

wat u want from crytek make a game just like crysis 1 ! then wat will be the difference nothing ! it would be like crysis 1 is crysis 2

I think the original Crysis is superior because it had more lush and colorful environments, but technically I think they look the same. Crysis 2 is by far the best looking game on consoles, rivaled by new releases like L.A. Noire.

Yes, Crysis and Warhead easily beat Crysis 2 in terms of graphics, I would even dare to say that it is also superior in gameplay, but it's not fair to say that Crysis 2 is a bad game, because it isn't. It's actually a superb game, but sadly it wasn't up to my new standards that Crysis brought me to.

@jasonzilla11 Everyone is entitled to their own opinion just as you are so you don't really have the right to tell anyone to shut up and its really quite obvious why you'd say that Crysis 2 looks wonderful, Crysis 2 is one of the prettiest looking games on a console but trust me PC players are more used to prettier stuff, like the first Crysis. ;)

While it is obvious that Crysis 2 doesn't have the graphical quality seen in Crysis and Warhead, it still looks amazing. Everyone who is complaining that "This game sucks 'cause it doesn't have as good graphics as Crysis" should just shut up. It looks wonderful.

the biggest mistake of crytec was bringing this game (crysis2) to consoles bcs consoles have limited abilities than the PC. gmaes like CRYSIS 2 and MERO 2033 shouldve stayed on pc instead they brought them on consoles(not to mention the crapy 360 version of metro) some games just run exellent on the pc and based on thier physics and visuals they are related to the pc

@Gorge09 Also, just the fact that Crysis 2's multiplayer more resembles a Call of Duty game, by not including awesome modes like Power Struggle, is a disappointment considering the lack of variety of shooters for the consoles. Being a PC gamer, I never enjoy getting a port - Crysis 2 is exactly what it feels like.

Crysis 2 is a downgraded version of Crysis. It's intention was to decrease system requirements so the game would run in consoles and have better performance in PC. But in my case that didn't work because my PC is still the same since Crysis and playing the two of them Crysis looks a lot better than Crysis 2 and Crysis is far from being at maximum settings.

Crysis 1 and Warhead own Crysis 2 in graphics. There is very little that looks natural in Crysis 2, a lot is exaggerated much like most other games to give it an action movie feel. Crysis 1 and Warhead looked natural and at times photo realistic, you never get those moments is Crysis 2. Crysis 2 was not a bad game though, it wasnt as good as the first but not bad by any means. It could have done better (especially the graphics... why go backwards?). Until Battlefield 3 comes out Crysis 1 and Metro 2033 will be my graphics showcases.

Crysis 1 and Warhead have a better engine in the sense that it can do more and run multiple things at the same time. Yet Crysis 2 with no doubt has better graphics. It is clearly visually more stunning. It has more light sources (even if the lighting is simpler), way more detail, and is generally a lot smoother. Plus it runs perfectly on the 360, what more can you ask?

@Ionizer23 The comparison is based on the condition it was released. This comparison was done before any DX11 announcement was made.

Ionizer23
Ionizer23

isn't Crysis 2 DX9 at the moment? I don't think its fair to compare the game until DX11 is released for it, that way the full graphical experience could be compared. And if they were to compare it right now, they should have at least played C1 and Warhead in DX9

The most shocking difference is in overall colors and lighting imo. The first Crysis looks very natural and realistic in regards of lighting . The new one have the same comics inspired look like almost all the other console games. Everything is too contrast, colors are processed or something to look more like movies or comics rather than a real thing, too much of a weird glare on everything that makes things non-material. I have an impression that the problem is not with the game being technically damped down to consoles but rather with a good taste that is lost in the new game.

@Brazucass That's not really the point, the gameplay I mean. It IS indeed about how the graphics "evolve", which in this case DON'T. They took out some (small) graphical features, most likely to adapt to lower performing consoles. Yet, they could have left it in and used some of the changes as shown in this video, like lowering the view-distance or something like that. Still, they could have left everything in the PC-version, which Crysis was originally made for, then just "dumb down" the PC-version to port to the consoles. It's really annoying, since they first all showed off the technical aspects of 'Crysis', then they sell out with a sequel which is similar but less. While they should have gone all-out with DX11 and make another monster of an engine, perhaps also performing better and make it able to set lower for systems that aren't as fast, such as consoles. Just all doesn't make sense, I'd have to agree they're selling out. And, even though I didn't play 'Crysis 2' yet, I'm not too crazy about what I've seen of it as a game, even though it might be a good game. But I agree with people that say it should have been even more technically advanced and not held back for console-versions and all that.

@Snaptrap I own both crysis1 and 2 and Warhead. Crysis 2 IS far too linear and is a bore for PC owners. It is sad they have given up all their cutting edge expertise and gone instead for a mainstream, moneymaking, run of the mill, generic shooter, using the reputation of Crysis 1 as a selling point. Maybe their next game will be better.. and I hope the ex- Free Radical now decide to make a decent Timesplitters 4 and then I may even buy a console. Let's hope BF3 and Witcher 2 etc make having a decent PC worth it.

For me crysis 2 and fallout 3 is the same in the sense.Coz you dont need to upgrade your pc too much to play. 512MB Graphic card will work perfect.

Im playing crysis 2 in "Gamer" that means in low graphics i think. but its pretty kool you can't imagine the graphics is very good and the performance is 100 times good than crysis1 and also warhead.Well thats what i say.

Snaptrap
Snaptrap

@BryTheGuy Well if that's the case then the millions of people who actually bought Crysis can say "You screwed up Crytek, I think I'll just download Crysis 2". It's sad that they base their decision on the people who pirate the game on not on the legitimate owners. I guess the game isn't selling as well as they hoped which explains the announcement of a DX11 patch. Unfortunately Crysis 2 is too linear and a patch will only make a boring game look pretty. Perhaps with less ego and arrogance they'll make better decisions in the future. Sorry Crytek, you won't be getting my $50 this time as I find more enjoyment and value with the original. Your loss.

BryTheGuy
BryTheGuy

When Crysis 1 was massively pirated and everybody used it illegally for benchmarking I clearly remember the team at Crysis saying basically 'You screwed up PC owners', the next game is going to be 'console friendly' and the PC would get the token gesture version. I don't know people don't remember that? They've stuck to their word. Rightly or wrongly, I don't know, but that's what they've done. Now I hope they make Timesplitters 4 and then I'll buy one of the new consoles, coz that series rocked on XBOX and PS2.

@Blubadox I agree with you, but ME2 was not customised for PC. There is no true widescreen support (fov) and other options (mouse smoothing etc.) are locked in a hex file format. The common denominator for these problems. EA.

Blubadox

@holycrowbar Crysis 2 is not one of them, take a look at Mass Effect 2- even-though it's not open world gameplay it is written separately for PC with many pc only customizations and gameplay mechanics.

Snaptrap

@holycrowbar Better yes, optimized no. The only time I've ever seen a multi-platform game optimized for PC is when it's made for PC and later ported to consoles.

holycrowbar

@Blubadox some multiplatform games are optimized for PC. Just because something is on multiple systems, doesn't mean companies can't spend time making it better on one system vs another.

crytek made total paradox with both engines. back in 2007, there were much less powerful machines, but they made DX10 game that looked much ahead of that time, by any mean... now, after four years, when many ppl have i7 and SLI or CF, simply much, much better machines, and DX11 is there quite a while - they make "this", wrapped in DX9. but, the answer is actually very simple - consoles - the money.

After playing Crysis 2 on the 360 (which doesn't look as graphically impressive as its PC counterpart), I was trying to reflect back on Crysis and Warhead and figure out where Crysis 2 improved the graphics. I hadn't played Crysis in over a year, so my memory was kind of fuzzy. This video definitely reminded me of just how amazing Crysis was both in graphics and physics. I do think that Crytek took a bit of a step back in Crysis 2, but it's understandable. I know several of my friends who wanted to play Crysis but just didn't have anywhere near a powerful enough pc to play it. What Crytek did with Crysis 2, making it more accessible, was a smart move, but after seeing this video and being reminded of the quality of Crysis and Warhead, I definitely feel those games are superior to Crysis 2.

sammoth

@diabloakaSAHA Wow that is the stupidest accusation I ever heard. Crysis 2 did not get ported to consoles because of piracy. It came to console to sell more games for profit. WTH are you talking about Crysis 2 brining PC game rigs to its knees most of the arguments here is about it being dumb down for console witch it is. You clearly have no clue what your talking about. It still looks great on a PC and I can't wait for the DX 11 update.

Crytek are renowned for producing games that push PC gaming to its max. Because of this, they have created a fan-base of hardcore PC gamers. I think it was really stupid of them to just abandon such a fan-base. Fine, provide a stipped down PC version for consoles. But for crying out loud, don't let DATED console standards dictate the quality of an established PC franchise. It is PR suicide! The current generation of console gaming is coming towards the end of its lifecycle and the next generation of consoles will probably be announced within the next 12 months. If crytek had pulled such a stunt for the next generation of console gaming, it might have worked, but on the current gen... Meh, it just looks like a joke alongside the first Crysis.

My problem with crysis is not with the graphics. Well, a bit, although they're releasing a DirectX 11 support soon, so this may change things. My problem is with the poor AI, the linear gameplay, no sandbox world, small encounters - in Crysis 1 you actually felt you're fighting a all battalion in one encounter, etc. Crysis 2 is a good game. But Crytek went to far to bring this title to consoles, forgetting their true followers - the PC community.
