Years later and I still don't know why they chose Nietzsche as their inspiration, title wise. Oh well. Never played it when it first came out for some reason, this might give me a good excuse though
Yay! I never got to play the original and regretted missing out on it. That's not gonna happen again.
Already have it on GC but this is a great way for new players to experience one of the best games from that console generation. It´s also a hint that a second game may come in the future. :)
I'm loving all this late on the graphics. Some of the best games out there have "terrible" graphics and most of them were made in the last millennium. There. Is. More. To. Games. Than. Graphics...
I love this remastering trend. I probably would have never played the first two God of War games otherwise. I never owned a ps2 so Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus remastered is a must as well. I know they did it for Conker already but I wouldn't mind playing that for a third time. If they made Morrowind HD remastered I would be in Nostalgia Heaven.
This is kind of like what they did with God of War. They remastered it in HD, to get the hype going for a sequel, and to get more people in to a great game. I liked the idea for God of War because it was a very popular well known game, that needed to be retouched. Beyond good and evil on the other hand, isn't a blockbuster game, so only those who have already played it are going to care about this. I loved the game on the last gen consoles, but I don't think i'll be picking this one up. Still worked in making me want the sequel even ore though.
Great! One of the best games of the previous console generation. Waiting for Xenogears also, I believe it was released elsewhere but not in the US yet.
@otanikun Hey, genius, they ARE making a second one. And this isn't "an" graphical remake; it's just a remaster in HD. It's a great way to get old fans a chance to get excited again and more people that avoided it the first time a chance to experience it. Be lucky you're getting anything at all.
@otanikun, if the first one was awesome, as you say, and indeed it was, (one of my all-time faves, actually.) Then what's wrong with a remake? Seeing as how the first one went criminally under-played by the majority of gamers, this will let a lot of people who missed it the first time around experience this little gem. And even the fact that Ubi is doing this in the first place is a pretty sure sign that the sequel is on it's way. They're just fanning the flames here.
So instead of the 2nd one, we get an graphical remake of the 1st one? How do you spell lame? Don't get me wrong the first game was awesome, but I'd rather see a 2nd one than the same thing over again.
@orangepeel1972, says you a loyal fan. I have played the original, normally not into platformers but this one was rather good. But not by today's standard, gameplay might still be appealing but if these graphics are final then it will have a hard time finding a new market. Which is what I suspect they are trying to do. The original, while good, wasnt a commercial success and with a sequel on the way they need to get more people excisted. Bringing back the old fanbase isnt enough.
Wahoo. I never managed to finish this game during the previous generation. The mistake shall not be made again.
@thattotally, I think when they say HD, they mean it will look the same on an HDTV as it did on our ghetto CRT monitors. That is to say, the graphics have not been updated, but they will not look too stretched or too pixelated when played on an HDTV.
Why all this "It's not very spruced up" stuff. It's BG&E, it doesn't need any kind of 'sprucing'. It's a classic and doesn't need the Goldeneye Wii treatment.
how about finishing BG&E... if you hope to convince publishers by sales figures of this DLC than it will probably sell less than the original retail game 7 years ago.. just make the scond game more appealing to a larger crowd while sustaining the atmosphere and originality of the original
Wait a minute, that's supposed to be HD? Looks like the original version to me. Not very spruced up is it? Thankfully, this gen gamers care more about fun gameplay than graphics in video games. Oh wait...
I can't wait for this and will probably be buying it day one. But I feel the footage in the video doesn't seem to have much of an improvement. It doesn't seem to look lots better like God of War HD remake did compared to original. Either way I will get it.
@IndianaPwns39 Microsoft has just announced Beyond Good & Evil HD will be available on XBLA on Feb 18. I suppose it'll be on PSN around the same time. Not long now. :)
To everyone who hasn't played this, I highly recommend picking this up when it comes out. I picked this up off the shelf with no knowledge about it a long time ago, and it became my unexpected, most treasured gaming experience.
Unless I'm mistaken, you could always play this game in hd on PC, though due to the forced letterbox, the proportions were way outta whack and there was nothing you could do about it. I'm sort of torn between being glad the game looks largely the same, and being disappointed it didn't get a real overhaul like Butcher Bay last year (if you didn't see the remastered results, just know it was like playing a brand new game). On the other hand, I've always LOVED the visual style of this game, and I was a bit worried about how "realistic" they might have wanted to make it look in the case of a full on overhaul. I'm hugely excited about any BG&E releases, though. It means it's still alive. I'm also TOTALLY buying this the day it's available! I wanna get all the trophies/achievements for my all time favorite game! :D
have this on the computer and the graphics quality is still better on my PC but I'm still glad they are re-releasing it for those that never got to enjoy it back in 2003
Well duh, xboxgameman. This is an HD remake of the original game - which means it's been converted to fit an HD format and the textures (probably audio as well) has been retouched to be sharper and clearer. It doesn't mean they remade the entire freaking game on a new engine.
Damn, I was hoping for a release date. To everyone complaining for a Beyond Good & Evil 2: buy this! It will show Ubisoft there's still interest in the series. Making a sequel to an old game isn't always the best idea, so they might be cautious rushing 2 out.
@hobomonkey I think they are working hard on beyond good & evil 2 and they are almost done with it and that's why they are releasing the first one so whoever didn't play the first one yet (like me) can be ready for the second one when it comes out. If that's true, then that is an excellent move from Ubisoft.
This was a great game and i would love to play it again, but lets remember something. Remaking a game in HD isn't improving the graphics. Its only making the picture clearer.
Stop wasting time with stuff like this ubisoft! yes beyond good and evil is an awesome game, and yes it is worth playing again, but all that time you spent upgrading the game into HD could have been spent working on beyond good and evil 2! Well i guess re-releasing it in HD could generate some desperatly needed hype....
