Best games of Q1 2014 - The Lobby
Jeff Gerstmann, Kevin VanOrd and Danny O'Dwyer go over their favorites so far from 2014, a few games that missed the mark and what they expect to see from the Playstation 4, Xbox One and highly anticipated titles for the upcoming E3.

Looking at Kevin's T-shirt, it looks like Wildstar will be getting a 9+ review 8p. J/k but based on the beta WIldstar is good for sure, cool shirt too.
Anyone else hate the song in the watch dogs promos? The little bit of the sampled vocals just sound like someone dying or something.
@Verityrant not as annoying as the fucking annoying dumb Mario Kart bullshit.
Have to say I was really happy to see Jeff on here and voicing his opinions. I think its those opinions though that seem to offend either some of the blind Nintendo fans or newer gamers who don't really know anything pre-last gen.
I think there is certainly a growing dislike towards the industry for bringing out the same stuff over and over and over and over again. Think about the comparison for getting a XboxOne over as PS4. Really the argument is right nowl; PS4 produces the same games but slightly better graphics. Which essentially means you are getting the same experience on both consoles. So there is no real diversity between the two.
People have suggested before that there would be another "gaming crash". I think what we are seeing is a gaming industry grinding to a halt. No games that have been announced so far that I can think of are "new" games. There is nothing that is like WOAH that has never been done before, or even very close to being near original. I mean even Star Citizen so far looks essientially like a star wars game I played back in 1996 or 1997. The whole "you black out from excessive g-force" was in flight simulator 98.
Hopefully VR can bring something new to the table and with UE4 being really relatively easy to produce stuff as well as Unity etc, hopefully something fresh will come along.
@o0squishy0o He offends Sega fans too.
First person shooters are on there way out which is a shame for Titanfall because 3 years ago it would have been a awesome game.
Seeing Jeff and Danny in the same room, I hope for a Half-life 2 10 year anniversary feature in which they can debate about pacing of that game, because Jeff stated that the original HL2 has pacing issue in his review on Orange Box for Gamespot more than 6 years ago while Danny felt the pacing of HL2 Episodes is off.
Man the guy in the red shirt exudes negativity. Kevin seemed less negative about a really bad game than this guy did about everything else.
Makes me appreciate how Gamespots personalities are generally positive.
@thermalmotion He's been in the biz for quite a while, just growing tired of seeing the same old shit every year.
@thermalmotion That's just Jeff's personality. He is highly critical but you begin to appreciate it after following him for the past 10 years.
You can tell Jeff is sick of all this new edge gaming bullshit. Episodic games, garbage fps. Gaming is in a state of 911
@Metallicwolf29 Hell no, shit was garbage.
@Arther-la-Blunt Yeah, he did seem to be in a pissy mood.
@Arther-la-Blunt That's going a bit far, lol.
@Arther-la-Blunt Nobody cares what you like or not.
Nice to see Jeff back here at gamespot! He was one of my favorit reviewer together with Alex Navarro
@Banyek Yes!! totally agree
There have been success stories, but they all seem to be relative to each other. There hasn't been anything that's made me think it's a game changer.
Jeff is the man! I hope we see more of him on the show! Make it happen Danny! You are great too buddy :D
Jeff, I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around someone who's FPS weary saying X1 has the better exclusives. I can only assume you REALLY like Forza and Dead Rising 3.
This is awesome. All of these guys are some of my favorite people to work/have worked at Gamespot. All that was missing was Greg Kasavin.
@Gamer3344 Danny should go back to where ever he came from
Dark Souls II is easily my favorite game of the year so far. I don't think it's quite as good as Dark Souls, but it's close enough to where I can say it's a worthy successor. I also really like Titanfall, which would be getting more hype if it were on the "almighty" PS4. The core gameplay in Titanfall is just so much fun, even if it doesn't exactly revolutionize competitive FPS.
@Sushiglutton Dude has had wayyy too many snacks
What about The Division? Danny was so excited last year when he saw that guy close a car door in cover.
I think the "inside info" game they're talking about at the end is Fallout 4.
I'm so hoping we get Fallout 4 and RDR 3 announcements at E3.
- "Titanfall, DLC coming out"
- "Nope, don't care!"
Exactly, I'm not even wondering if this COD mod would be glorified if it came out on both consoles, because I know it wouldn't
@mr_nee It's funny when people act like COD is the original FPS when it's just Wolfenstein without the nazis.
I'm glad to see Dark Souls 2 receive its rightful praise and love. In an era of dumbed down games that caters to the casual masses and holds your hand every step of the way, it is amazing to play a rich, hardcore, beautiful, atmospheric and mysterious rpg that is engaging, challenging and gut-wrenching. It will have few if any challengers for game of the year outside of sources who worship watered down dude bro shooters.
E3 is gonna be awesome, all 3 looks like they are gonna bring their A game. Also i find it bizarre how people are assuming that Nintendo doing their presenation in a different format = weakness. Frankly Nintendo's way is reaching a broader advertisement wise, they dont want it to just simply be about the people attending E3, they want everyone to enjoy the experience and they are so far looking extremely serious with all the different events they announced.
You want to talk about "That one game" it varies, you want to talk about sales? Frankly Mario Kart 8 looks like itll give the Wii U the boost that Titanfall failed to give the Xbone.
Otherwise its gonna be awesome seeing the new Wii U Zelda especially given how Aunoma wants to twist with Zelda tradition especially with YOU guys giving it GOTY.Uncharted 4 too and im curious to see how the Order is doing as well.
and frankly Nintendo has done bizarre things nowadays that is "Is Nintendo still Nintendo", what are you smoking thinking they arent? We definitely didnt see Hyrule Warriors and others coming.
@hotdiddykong I'm excited to see what Nintendo is up to. I have PS4 but will get a Wii U if a great Zelda and/or Metroid get announced. Plus isn't there a sequel or spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem coming?
@hotdiddykong No game followed by a number as high as 8 is going to turn around a failing console. Nintendo stated openly their audience is kids/families because they have no intention of doing anything really new, so their only shot is with those who didn't play Mario Kart the first 7 times.
