I wish Fireaxis had gone (from the start) with the same system as the original XCOM, with random procedural maps that changed every time you played.
And with base defense where the base was JUST LIKE THE BASE you assembled.
Unfortunatelly, they decided for the vertical base "antfarm" system, so even if they wanted, there was no way to make a base defense where it is the base YOU assembled.
An entire DLC just to put in a minor feature missing from the original game.
Stuff like this has nothing on expansion packs for games back then.
Why make this expansion? Why not just make a full-blown sequel? I'm not playing this again after playing through the original five times. I like the new features, but it's the same thing again.
Will be getting this! Glad its seperate expansion as i may get this for my PC instead of PS3! Then again!
Quite nice how they connected this gme with The Bureau XCOM Declassified... People mind controlled with goo coming out of their eyes... Firaxis and it's filial company 2K are playing their cards right and might push for more development on this series :)
You know what would be fun... if they did something similar to "The Last of Us" and you could link your Facebook account and have your soldiers automatically be assigned your friend's names... just a though.
Meh. We all knew Base Defense was in, the only question is would it be another scripted one-off mission. Sadly that answer is yes.
I love Firaxis to death for resurrecting one of my most beloved series, but they seemed to miss the entire point of XCOM which is MAKING YOUR OWN STORIES. Not this prescripted crap.
Did they realize what they were doing? 99% yes. Sadly these decisions had to be made to appease to the save spamming unwashed masses.
I would love to see these two idiots play a base defense in the original game or Terror from the deep. I don't think they could survive to the end of either.
The question is, is this going to be a one time scripted event? Or is there a chance of this happening at random intervals.
Fantastic! It doesn't really look like the base defence from the early games, the map just looks standard instead of being your base that you've been building, though I guess that's just one of the downsides of using a fancy 3D engine instead of the 2D tile sets. I can forgive it. Now just hurry up and release already!
@PinchySkree They're adding 50% more maps, the EXALT faction, 2 new aliens, several new items, base defense, multiple bug fixes, and new second wave options. It's exactly like an old school expansion.
@PinchySkree Way to have NOOOOOO clue what the hell you are talking about.
@elby322 They're adding a ridiculous amount of additional content.
@elby322 Because they can? If you don't want to play, then don't play... Others will play.
@Kisalon As standard.
@Cristhian_Cobas yes I noticed as well, And really liked that
@zeusbark or you could take the 15 seconds to name the soldier yourself.....
@zeusbark Think there is a mod for that already.
@Boddicker XCOM was never about making your own stories. There is an entire storyline, which is about Aliens invading Earth, for a reason, and it is your goal, as the commander of the X-Com team, to defend against the Aliens, find out why they are invading, and put a stop to the invasion.
It's not wrong for Firaxis to flesh out a bit the story.
@Boddicker I agree with that. The new XCOM is not a bad game but it can definitely be described as predictable.
Personally I'm glad for the "unwashed masses". If not for them XCOM would have died fast and there wouldn't have been any new content.
Is it a perfect game? No, but IMHO its positives far outweigh its negatives.
@Boddicker Well I'm happy they made this game and Enemy Unknown. Being one of those unwashed masses, I am happy to even get to know this series. I love spamming saves, it's pretty awesome for an already frustrating game.
So yes, I can't even play the original.
@gbrown02 Sorry, I ain't as good as you. I'm still having fun. Yes, I did buy the earlier games in the series and am terrible at them. Thank god for this learning curve.
@billzihang I hope random, and I also hope that you get tons of stuff from fighting off these guys.
@TheGreatPhoenix I know, they should call it what it is... an expansion pack
@TheGreatPhoenix On PC it is DLC
@GnugnaGnagna Would you say your teeth have gone on overwatch or hunkered down?
@Lash540 <suck, suck, suck, SLUUUUUURRRP!>
@rofeta ................I actually agree with this, but that doesn't mean I'm happy about them catering to people that are only going to play through it once or twice.
