Victoria II is a true sequel to the original. If you haven't play the original, its OK, it may take sometime to learn the ropes. Once you learned the rope, the game is worth it! The company, paradox interactive, didn't make much money on the first one. So they didn't make the sequel for the money. It's truly for the fan. That being said, the first one had some flaw such as a huge learning curve. So the second one improve on that.
The new interface is really great. It makes switching from different context of managing your country very easy.
The economy flows just like money. The game emphasize on the era which is about change. Change from the economy's industrial revolution to the government change such as democracy.
Many aspect of the game may be set to auto which helps ease new players into the game.
