Uncharted 2 combines the excitement of an action blockbuster hit with the immersion of a top-notch videogame.

Naughty Dog did an incredible job of combining multiple genres of videogames in concert with an action-style blockbuster movie. Right now is probably the best time to pick the Game of the Year addition for $29.99 and it includes a plethora of bonus content (the cover says $35 worth).

Gameplay wise expect to find a hybrid between platforming and acrobatics (e.g., Prince of Persia), and fierce behind-cover and over-the-shoulder shootouts (e.g., Gears of War). There's also a little bit of stealth action and quick take-down situations (e.g., Assassin's Creed maybe?). Though none of the gameplay is particularly original, the successful integration of these elements within a cohesive framework makes it quite formidable. Drake controls well for the most part and will thankfully grab onto ledges when you make a close call on a jump. Thankfully, he's strong enough to lift himself up from a ledge which, in all honesty, would seem VERY difficult -if not impossible- in real life. That said, the game mostly keeps things on the edge of reality and the supernatural (e.g., think Indiana Jones if you will) and this seems to be quite intentional - not to mention entertaining. That said, I did have several deaths because in a few situations it was difficult to get Drake to go straight, instead jumping and flailing his arms like a maniac to his doom... In addition there were a few scenes in which you're playing the game and the camera change, dynamic as it was, altered the controls mid-action in relation to the screen causing me to have to readjust my inputs to continue the same direction. Those were just minor instances though and easily rectified, though they led to a few more deaths than I would have liked.

As for weaponary, Drake will run across a variety of firearms including a pistol, magnum, shotgun, machinegun, rifle, rocket launcher, and grenade launcher. I was annoyed that you can only carry one handgun and one large firearm at a time (along with four grenades). Would have been nice if you could carry at least one more. In some case I found myself choosing between a sniper rifle, shotgun, or rocket launcher (each serving better under different circumstances). With no clue as to what is coming around the corner, choices simply came down to a toss of the coin. Perhaps in follow-up play-throughs this will be easier. In addition to firearms we wouldn't want to forget the hand-to-hand fights too. When enemy's are close you can break out the "big guns" (you know, your fists?) and start boxing it out. It can be kind of fun - it mostly comes off as a bit of a mini-game which adds a nice touch of variety. It doesn't work on the open battle field too well though, with bullets a blazing. Trust me, I know.

On to the theatrical side of things, the plot's all about exploring and finding valuable artifacts, apparently for hire but that doesn't appear to work out very well for Drake. He has a couple of love interest and all the male competitors seem to be conveniently killed off by the end (not to mention backstabbers - no honor among thieves right?) - good for Drake I guess...seems to be a staple in action movies haha. Anyway, there's a stone surrounding an exhibition of Marco Polo that was never found - you're going to find it; lucky you. Remember the Nazi's and the holy grail or the ark from Indiana Jones? Well you guessed it, there's some military types after this stone and you have to beat them to the booty and save the world. Of course it wont be easy, there will be enemies littered in your path at every step. Enjoy!

What makes this game stand out from all the rest is its ability to integrate multiple game genres, theatrical scenes, and gameplay seamlessly. For example, in one scene you're riding a train, climbing from car to car, taking out enemies and then BAM a helicopter starts pelting the cars behind you. Stuff's flying everywhere and your running, jumping, and struggling to get out of harms way; all in real-time. The action is the most intense I have seen since Gears of War on the Xbox 360. If you have a PS3, pick this up.
