10 years ago when I discovered this game, I didn't like it as much because it was an RPG... it's a life simulator!

User Rating: 9.7 | Ultima VII: The Black Gate PC
This game was truly revolutionary. Not only is it an excellent RPG in the way that it has a good quest, interesting characters, very clear graphics and good combat, but the revolutionary part was the real life aspects. You had to eat, you were able to craft things, go fishing, sleep, you were able to do jobs and so on... and the best thing was that not only did you do that, but the NPC:s lived lives of their own too, sleeping in the night, gathering at the taverns in the evening and so on.

This is not a full review in the way that I'm going to cover all aspects of the game. But when I played this game, it was so different, so epic, I sometimes felt as if my life in the Ultima world was a lot more important than what happened outside of the computer. And to be honest, I never got far into the main quest. I simply lived the Ultima 7 world! Heck, I even tried to build myself a house from logs found on an island! It never had a roof, but it shows you what kind of possibilites the game world had.

Now there are many RPGs in which you can do real life actions. Games like Quest for glory did too have similiar elements to Ultima 7. The Ultima 7 part 2 game, which has the same engine as the Black Gate, is by many considered a better RPG. And I guess it is, in the way that the story was better and dragged you into it more, but at the huge expense of being a lot more linear and not at all the open "live your life" world that U7 BG was. This game gave me hundreds of hours of the extremest of entertainment.
