This game could have been a whole lot better.

User Rating: 4.5 | True Crime: New York City PS2
True Crime: New York City could have been the next generation of GTA with the many things you can do. However, it is impossible to overlook its flaws since they are constant and their quality is as large as the TV screen itself. I'll start with the good points first.

The good points:

In this game, there is SO much you can do. You use dozens of different methods to arrest a criminal or fight one. There is a lot of focus on material like cars as to slow down the person being chased with styles of ramming. There is also a lot to explore. I can almost say that right now, it is one of the closest contenders to GTA 4 in terms of open gameplay and things to do.

The bad points:

You'd think that after hearing all these points that it could be one of the best games ever made, and it actually could have been. However, there are a lot of things that spoil it. No matter how cool it sounds, you will be truly disappointed when you experience it. This game is pretty buggy, so at times it can really annoy you. What pisses me off most of all are the complex controls and the terrible animation. The body and car movement is so slow that you'd think that you were playing in slow motion when you first try it.

Like I said, the animation is really poor. When I hit a car, the driver flew out of the window against me. Sounds cool doesn't it? However his speed was as though he was being pulled on the ground and dragged slowly. Stuff like that is so annoying that it makes me want to turn off the game. The dialogue could have had some improvement in order to make the story more interesting as well.

Summary:

If this games bad point were fixed, it could have been loads of fun. However it is too late for that sort of thing now, so the best you can do is listen to what I am saying and ignore this game.
