Possibly the end of a great series.

User Rating: 4 | Total War: Rome II PC
This is not a full review. If you want to understand the problems then just check out the official forums at totalwar.com or just play the game, it'll be obvious.

In short, the game is a pale imitation of the TW series. There is no strategy, AI is terrible, so many good ideas have been removed, so many terrible ideas introduced.

The game has been massively dumbed down. How about these "features":
- Magic battlefield abilities (a la Starcraft)
- Some battles are about claiming capture points
- There is no point making a navy
- There is no family tree for your faction leader
- There are no seasons
- It takes your armies a year to move just a few miles
- The campaign AI is utterly passive
- The battle AI is non-existent
- Diplomacy is so broken, other nations won't even trade with you
- Agents are practically useless now
- Character portraits are the ugly and amateurish
- Armies run about and battles are over almost before they've begun
- It takes several minutes for the AI to take its turn

Shall I go on? There is plenty more. The problems will not be fixed by patches - these are gamebreaking design flaws. This game has no soul. It is not Total War. It's TW: Lite.

Avoid. Go play Rome 1 with mods or Shogun II. Or any one of the excellent strategy games out there.

Rome II is an utter mess. It has no soul. It is not Total War. What a shame.
