Underworld is a solid game, however problems of the Legend are still here and the game brings nothing new to the series

Underworld is so far last instalment of the series, finishing the story of Anniversary and Legend. As we can expect, the graphics, moves and level design are almost all enhanced versions of the Legend; the only really new move the game features is to freely (almost) climb on the walls, something I really enjoyed and which I miss in my replaying of all previous Tomb Raiders since I played Underworld. The game has also its own set of Lara's costumes, relics, creatures and some reliable weapons. But unfortunately, that's about it.

Do not take me wrong, I still enjoyed the game very much. The story is not very original, however it carries Lara through the game decently most of the time, with references to both Legend and Anniversary, and answers some previously unanswered questions. The end may be a little disappointing for some, as it is almost too easy to actually save the word this time around, but before the end the level difficulty is similar to Legend and for most of the gamers will be appropriate. The amount of action sequences is generally about the same as well. But this takes me to the most troubling part of Underworld.

There is practically nothing (aside from that one move) which was not - in one or other variation - in previous Crystal Dynamic's Tomb Raider games. The whole game is even in story actually so attached to the Legends that it could be as well one game split in two parts, in a similar way like (for example) Syberia. Even environment of the game is almost the same. And the control and camera problems as well. So, Underworld would probably be a very good and refreshing game - if it was not for the fact that every part of it was here before. Let's hope next time Lara will try to dig out some better and fresher ideas to keep her going.
