Die hard fans would love to relive the past moments, if only the controls can handle the trilogy.

User Rating: 5 | Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft NS

The good: All first three games with secret missions are all here, able to switch between old and new graphics, nice to hear Lara Croft's voice, sound effects and music, nice replay value.

The bad: The controls aren't really responsive, the tutorial doesn't show what button to use as you try out moves and go through time trials, modern or tank controls doesn't do justice for the trilogy.

If you remember back to the pre-console wars with PlayStation, Nintendo 64 and many more, there's a battle for the best mascot for their game representatives. While it is a remaster in its own right in all first three Tomb Raider trilogy, it really fails when you first try out the controls.

You would think the controls, tank or modern would be responsive and comfortable to use. But a lack of button prompts, response and a way to use the controls smoothly doom the trilogy from the start. I wanted to do the acrobatics that Tomb Raider is really famous for. Instead, I feel more like a tank, trying in a trial and error, go from A to B with falling to my death or worse. If only this aspect can be resolved through a patch, my score would be very different, giving a proper reason to play the game.

However, the rest feels right for this modern era. Especially for the Switch. The graphics, old and new, works well in its own right. Lara sounds good with sound effects and music. And the trilogy feels reasonably long for all three games of Lara Croft.

Perhaps, if the developers weren't just rushing to make an easy buck, this trilogy would've show case how Lara is able to handle the acrobatic puzzles and taking down bad guys in a unique way. Even though there's nothing wrong with how the game works, the controls seriously needs to be properly adjusted to make you feel like you are Lara Croft and not like someone who tries and fails to impersonate that person. Die hard fans would enjoy this regardless but newcomers should look elsewhere like Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia to learn and enjoy smooth responsive controls.
