Time Pilot is a classic Konami Arcade game, but it seems to be lost in the shuffle of other XBLA games including Frogger and Pac Man. But fear not, even though this game is not famous it is still pretty fun. Game play : Time Pilot's gameplay is simple yet addictive. You go around in your plane (one from 1982) and fight planes from the past and the future. Though there are only 5 levels, each level is different in its own way. You start out in 1910 and fight a bunch of biplanes that simply can shoot and occasionally drop bombs. Each level you beat you go further in the future against better planes with better weapons (like missiles), until you reach the future! In 2001 the fight is taken to space where you get to fight against UFOs (yup it really does give you a retro fell). As the levels progress they do get harder. The achievements are a little easy to get but it really does not matter because it has value well beyond the achievement points.

The online is not so good. You can play vs. or co-op, but you're not really on the same screen. You compete against or with each other to get the higher score. So online is an addition, but not a selling point of the game. Graphics : When thinking about graphics, don't look at them from an Xbox360 graphics point, because the arcade games just wont have the amazing graphics that you can get on the discs. But it is certainly updated from the original version. Its fairly colorful and there is slight definition on your plane as well as the others in the sky, not to mention the sky in general. As you progress through the levels the graphics don't change much, but still look nice constantly. But if you are dead set on playing the original you can turn on graphics and sound to retro. Sound : The sound on this game is sort of bland. It is simply the sound of your ship firing shots and others exploding with a slight background music playing. The sound is nothing to brag about, but it does fit in with the game nice and fits into the retro arcade experience. As with graphics sound can also be turned back to retro. The entire game has really good controls. They are tight so moving the control stick a little will not send you plane out of control. You only need to worry about steering your ship and firing you shots with the “A” button. The mesh well with the game and should never lead you to make a mistake. Since it is a retro game the graphics and sound are not nearly as important (or expected to be great) as the gameplay and controls. Time Pilot was not chosen for XBLA because Konami was bored and decided to make a game. It is a great classic game that future generations can and should enjoy as well. Upgraded graphics and sound make it fun but the controls and gameplay are what make Time Pilot an awesome game!
