Best Taffin' Game Ever!

User Rating: 9.8 | Thief Gold PC
This review judges Thief by the standards of 1998.

If you haven't played Thief yet you definitely need to. Get a version that runs on XP as the original won't. And don't get The Dark Project, because the Gold version has three extra levels.

Gameplay: The amazing Dark Engine gave players the most immersive and creepy gaming experience of the day. (10)

Graphics: Although not as sharp as games today I haven't seen great graphics in any game made back then. (9)

Sound: Very creepy and atmospheric ambient sound. (10)

Value: Tons of free fan-made missions are available for download. Many of them are as good as or even better than the original giving you hundreds of hours of gameplay! (10)

Tilt: If Thief were released today, with better graphics of course, it would be one of the best games of the decade. (10)

The Good: Everything, especially the gripping story and the original setting.

The Bad: Huh, bad?

The Bottom Line: When Thief was released it was a truly unique, refreshing, immersive and addicting experience. Over the years the only thing that has degraded is the graphic quality. It hasn't really degraded, but you know what I mean. And I still play it!
