Entertaining combat, Exhausting travel

User Rating: 7 | The Witcher: Enhanced Edition PC

As I played through this game april of 2019 and may of 2019 I realized how much a relic of its time it is. The combat and the RPG elements are great. I enjoyed the talent trees, mixing potions (and being aware of their toxicity) to suit the style of enemies and employing either the witcher sword or silver sword to accompany the afformentioned decisions. My biggest gripe about the game was the traveling. Often I would travel for what seemed like a half hour between quests. This game could have really benefitted from a fast travel system. Also, the engine forces a very linear gameplay. Things you think you should be able to climb over like a one foot ridge, requires you to go around. If you want to go up a hill it will require a ramp or gentle slope. There is no jumping in this game, not even a vertical incline of a foot. On steam it says I have 69 hours played and I would say literally half of that was running back and forth between quest objectives and quest hubs. Very frustrating. Alas, overall it was barely an enjoyable experience due to the travelling. It made me appreciate fast travelling in modern RPGs. This game for me deserves a solid 7/10
