The most Fun I've had with a Zombie Game.

User Rating: 10 | The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct X360
I didn't really know what to think about this game at first. All I knew is that it was a First-Person Shooter based on The Walking Dead: which I barely had watched at the time, nor had I played the Telltale games. Then I found out that it was developed by Terminal Reality, a company who I've been a fan of since Bloodrayne. That piqued my interest so I did some research to get more details about the actual Game play and liked what I found out. I was a bit mislead about the vehicles though, I thought you could control them in realtime instead of just choosing a destination and watching a red line go down the map. Oh well. So I rented and began playing and was instantly reminded of The Land of the Dead game, another game that was disliked by most but that I really enjoyed. I honestly thought they bought the assets from Groove Games. They have alot of the same weapons like The Hammer, Lead Pipe, and Fire axe, and on the firearms side A powerful Revolver and a Scoped Hunting Rifle. thankfully the Shotguns in TWD are actually useful for Headshots. They both feature dismemberment systems and wooden doors that can be broken down after several blows. Even the way the Zombies move seemed similar though much smoother. Anyway I enjoyed TWD for the same reason I enjoyed LOTD; They are both down-to-earth and perfectly capture the essence of Zombie Survival Horror. There aren't any superfast super zombies with 30-Foot long tongues or plots involving the presidents daughter here. Just slow and dumb old-school zombies and believeable situations and environments. There are also some good frights like when you're creeping slowly through an area when suddenly a Zombie grabs you and you have to play the whole jab a knife through their head mini-game. Also having huge pack of Ghouls chasing you while you attempt to get inside a house or on top of something can be quite a rush. Of course you can avoid that by being stealthy and creating distractions and this is the first time i've seen a Zombie game have a stealth element. Managing your group is kinda cool even though it mostly revolves around arming them and sending them out to find supplies and healing them if they get hurt. Overall the Game play is a bit simple but a lot of fun, especially if you prefer Classic Zombie Horror. It can be a fairly lengthy adventure if you stop to explore, scavenge and go for the Achievements There are also different routes to get to the end complete with different vehicles and companions which adds some replay value. The only gripe i have is that in some situations your bullets can be blocked by thin air. One time i attempted to shoot a Zombie through a car's windows and my bullet hit an invisible barrier. Kinda lame but by no means game-breaking. Co-op would have been nice too but whatever. This is my first review here on Gamespot and i guess felt a need to stand up for this game. Its truly the most fun I had with a Horror-Action game ever.
