One of the most underrated games of the last gen.

User Rating: 9 | The Suffering PS2
This is the game that made the horror/action genre make a slight leap forward. This is the game that was out the same time as Resident evil when they were still doing there find kep open door gameplay.
Sure it wasn't scary, but it had a unique setting with well designed monsters and there was a pretty good plot as well. You play as the quiet character Torque sentenced to death for being accused for killing your family. But as soon as you get in your cell things kick off and all these monsters begin to attack the prison. The games ending (1 of 3) depended on your actions threw out the game. An example being helping an inmate or killing him.
Gameplay wise it really was diffrent to the rest gone was the fixed camera's and dodgy controls that were in other horror/action titles and in came the behind the back camera (or FPS mode if you wanted) and simple control scheme. The set pieces were always intresting and unique, with it being an island your on you aren't just tied up in a prison. You go out in the open nature, a house, sewers, a wrecked ship and loads of other set pieces that make the game great.

Graphics: 7.0
When it first came out they just about held there own, a little dated these days but there still good.

Sound: 8.5
Good FX's, Voice acting is really brilliant, and the monsters make some weird sounds!

Gameplay: 8.5
It really is great! i dont wanna sound like im pissing on resi 4's glory but this game was the first to do fast pace and a diffrent apprach on camera.

S**** Box:
Not scary, Pretty linear, No one bought it!, could be frustrating at times.

Value: 9.0
It really is beyond a joke just how cheap it is so give it a go eh?

Overall: 9.0
Had a few problems, but it had a great story, fast pace, and some unique settings. If your looking for an old game to sink your teeth into till something comes out this is it.
