A good game, but you'll be begging for it to end.

User Rating: 6.9 | The Suffering PS2
The suffering is a brutal, relentless actioner that doesn't let up on the action from beginning to end. The story is about a lifer named Torque who ends up at Abbot State Penetentiery the day all hell breaks loose, literally. The prison has a history filled with tragedy and death. The controls are very well done and the cameras are good too. The gameplay is repetitive, and as good as the game is in the beginning, it slowly starts to vex you to play it as it gets toward the end. I must say, the monsters are extremely disturbing, and are interesting in that they are the manifestations of specific abominations that have occured at the prison in the past. The main thing I don't like about the game is how the story is forced on you again and again until you're like "okay, I get the point, the prison has a disturbing history and Torque is haunted by his past". It honestly got to the point where I was just playing the game to get it over with. All in all, The suffering gives for a solid action experience that is worth checking out. The game's not worth buying, but a rent will suffice.
