The Mask of Zorro

Most people who have played this game think that it sucks. Well, I own it, I’ve played it, and I can tell you that it does not suck! Is it great? No, but is it as bad as they say? Not at all, I’ve personally played WAY worse. The problem is that most people don’t play it the right way. In combat, for example; you hold down the A-button and Zorro goes into a fencing stand, with his rapier drawn. Now while holding the A-button, depending on which direction you press on the D-pad, Zorro will do different offenses or defenses. The thing is, most players think that you can just charge forward and you’ll be fine. THIS IS NOT THE CASE! You actually need different strategies for each enemy-type. What I do is that I first go into defensive in order to learn the opponent’s tactics, and then go into offensive and counter with the correct method. The other thing is the enemies with rifles. Apparently nobody can figure out how to dodge their shots. Well, you’re supposed to either time their shots and jump if it’s a low enemy, or just duck if it’s a tall one. One thing that I can agree is enoying, the A-button is for attacking, and the B-button is for jumping in this game, which is confusing, but you kind of get used to it after a short while. But still, I don’t think the game is as bad as everyone says. It’s no masterpiece or anything, but it at least tried to follow the plot of the movie it’s based on, a somewhat uncommon thing for movie licensed games back then.
