The Late Lion

The Lion King for the Sega Master System is a 2D action-platformer released at the very end of the life for the system. It is very similar to the 16-bit versions of this game, but with some changes in order to fit it on an 8-bit console. So, you have a game that really looks amazing, animates well, and sounds amazing for the Master System...but not as good as the 16-bit versions. Probably the most notable difference being in how the stampede level plays out (which is more standard here, being played horizontally on the Master System, but is one of the highlights of the game on the other consoles where you run into the screen, utilizing depth perception). It is easier than the 16-bit versions due to some of the changes though, which is a big benefit. Overall, while the presentation for the game is amazing, being done at the end of the system's life and not being able to compare to the higher bit versions kind of mitigate that benefit. Otherwise, it is a competent platformer, and isn't bad to play if available, but also isn't something I'd recommend going out of your way to check out.
