Great GBA title, something everyone should play!

User Rating: 9.6 | The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap GBA
This was the first Zelda game I played, and since then I've played the other three Zelda games made for the Game Boy / Color (not counting re-releases). While it lacks some of the challenge of previous installments at times, its some of the most fun you can have with your old GBA or the GBA slot in your DS.

The graphics are quite good, both for a GBA title and handheld Zelda. They're crisp and clear and never trick you into thinking something is closer or further than it is. Its not the most impressive graphics ever to grace the GBA, but they are darn good for a GBA title.

The controls are fantastic, it takes everything right about the Oracle games and Link's Awakening's controls and keeps them, and it improves upon some annoyance of the pervious games. Given that the GBA had shoulder buttons, lifting objects is now mapped to the R button (as well as talking and shrinking). Moving controls are obvious, but something interesting in this game is the "Minish" aspect of the game. Parts of the game (and two whole dungeons) take place entirely in the Minish realm, making interesting boss fights out of normally easy enemies such as Chu-Chus and Octorocks. Even in the big dungeons, Minish aspects are often used to advance. One boss requires both the use of normal size Link and Minish sized Link. Its an interesting idea that is used and works well with the game. Unlike previous GB/C entries, the bosses here can take up more than one screen and the grid overworld & dungeon system isn't present (although the overworld is chunked into about 10 large pieces). It makes the dungeons, boss fights, and overworld a lot easier to navigate and a bit more interesting.

The sound has all the usualy Zelda fare, nothing sticks out in particular and half of it you've probably heard already. The sound quality is great.

All-in-all, this is one of my Top 5 favorite GBA titles Its well worth it to find it an pick it up. Its not as long as most other Zelda games, but its fun while it lasts without any parts that feel like chore running (like the sailing in Wind Waker for example). If you're looking for a 'new' game to stick into your DS' GBA slot, llok no further, this game will have you hooked in the first dungeon.
