To start off, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages is more of a puzzler. If you're into more action, you need Oracle of Seasons. However, Oracle of Ages is a great Zelda game! With the right balance of story, action, puzzle, and item gathering, this 2D adventure might make you forget your friends.

The story is fairly simple, direct and to the point. Link is called out by the Triforce, and is teleported to some land called Labrynna. Anyway, as it goes on, a woman named Nayru, as you find out, is the Oracle of Ages. She can control time, and time-travel. An evil Sorceress, named Veran, possesses her and goes back in time. She starts wreaking havoc in the past, and changing the future. She begins building a black tower, and once it reaches completion, she will have created an Era of Shadows. So, you run around, do puzzles, kill things, collect the "Essences" that you need to defeat Veran, and then the big boss battle. The story has a few more intricate details, and is a simple, straight-up story.

There is a bit of sword-swinging in this game. You collect certain items, including (of course) a sword. The sword can be charged, and you can spin like the Link Ballerina you are, and nail the enemies surrounding you character. You also get a seed shooter, and you can use this to light enemies ablaze. And who doesn't love setting a monster on fire, right? You also get bombs. Again, who doesn't love blowing stuff up? There could've been a bit more to add to fighting, perhaps more sword moves, but no complaints. After all, this is a Gameboy Color game that we're talking about.

But, as traditional in all Zelda games, this one is a puzzler. You have to think through many dungeons. In fact, there is one dungeon where you have to spend all your time on the 1st floor trying to get to the basement. There are puzzles galore, as you try to regain items stolen by islanders, and find new ways to reach new places.

As the story goes, you're that good kid who helps everyone, and then saves the world. With decent music and dialogue, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages is tied together as one of the greatest Zelda games every to hit the shelves. Anyone who loves a decent challenge should love this Zelda classic, with puzzles and fighting, you can't get bored until you beat it.
