I'll admit, we all make mistakes. That is what happened the first time I tried to review this. I gave it an 8.5 and complained about time. In all, though, this probably stemmed from my game freezing (nintendo ports suck) numerous times. Upon a re-evaluation (and obtaining the Gilded Sword) I realized I was wrong about this game being just good. It is GREAT!
Majora's Mask is about the Skull kid getting Majora's Mask and screwing with the races of Termina (pretty much the same as OoT). This cumulates into one of the best Zelda adventures yet. Basically, this game is known for two things: the 3-day thing, and the masks. For one, you will have masks in your adventure. Masks do many different things. Though you don't need many masks to advance, the most well-known are the transformation masks. Basically, you can turn yourself into a deku, a goron, a zora, and supposing you relinquish all 20 masks at the end of the game, the Feirce Diety, the most powerfull form in all of Zelda. Asides from masks, everyone knows about the 3-Day cycle. Basically, it states you have 3 days to complete your tasks. While this isn't really 3 days and just a few hours, you can either slow time for a hard dungeon or advance for something that will happen later. Not only that, but you can warp back to the beginning of the period. This cumulates into you going back and doing things. For instance, if the Goron's area is snowy and you have the remains of the boss of the Snowhead Temple, Goht, you can go back to the dungeon, step on a tile, kill the boss again (though hard, bosses are easier with time and new items), then the Goron area is normal and you can, for example, go to the Goron racetrack or something.
The game makes use of the same graphics system of Ocarina of Time...and I mean the EXACT same. This isn't bad, but some can interpret this as annoying. Also, a well-discussed fact is that this game is really the opposite of Ocarina. While Ocarina had a huge, boring feild and a MASSIVE map, Termina had a detailed feild and map. Sadly, due to the time factor, the game is really more linear than OoT. The game just thrusts you in a direction, then you go there in Termina feild to get to the zone. That doesn't mean you can just run in and get to the dungeon though, that would be too easy. :)
Overall, this is a really awesome game. It takes a lot from OoT and refines it, and while not as long as some would want, it makes up with depth. A LOT of depth. -Skalokos
