After 21 years, A Link to the Past is still one of the best Zelda games, and any Super NES owner should get this game.

User Rating: 9 | Zelda no Densetsu: Kamigami no Triforce SNES
Highs: Great music, good dungeon design, controls nicely, takes itself more seriously than any other Zelda game, lots of secrets to keep you busy, challenging gameplay, the game that set the standard for all Zelda games.

Lows: Hidden items are a pain to get, some bosses can be very annoying, 500 Rupees for a pair of flippers????!!!!!!, expensive items, Link needs health like, all the time.

Verdict: One of the defining titles of the 16-bit monster machine that's totally worth picking up.

The Super Nintendo is widely hailed as one of the best game consoles of all time, if not the greatest one of all time. When it comes to deciding the best game in the Super Nintendo's library, people are divided into two groups. A. There are Super Metroid people, and B. There are A Link to the Past people. Super Metroid and A Link to The Past are considered by many people to be the two best games for the console, and even though I am a Super Metroid person, you really can't go wrong with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past either, released for the Super NES in 1992. In ALTTP, you play as Link, who is chosen to rescue the Seven Maidens (Zelda is one of them) from the Dark World, and defeat Ganondorf, then bring peace back to Hyrule once again. ALTTP plays similar to it's 8-bit predecessor, returning to the classic top-down style of the original game, but polishing it in pretty much every way. There are not only dungeons to explore in ALTTP, but also towns as well like the now famous Kakariko Village. This is a much larger game than the original, but a much more simple game than the original too. The controls are just fine, as Link reacts to your every command each time you press a button on the SNES controller. Each dungeon is very well designed, as it has a bunch of puzzles to solve and a challenging atmosphere. There are many secrets and hidden items to keep you busy in this game as well, as some take time to get. The music stays faithful to the original game, and introduced tunes that we would see in future Zelda games like the Kakariko Village theme and Zelda's Lullaby. ALTTP is a classic, but there are problems. Some of the hidden items are a huge pain to get, as you will be doing a lot of backtracking, some of the bosses are very annoying like Moldorm and Aganhim, as they take some time to kill off, the items are very expensive as a red potion will cost at least 130 rupees (What?), and paying 500 rupees for a pair of flippers that are mandatory for completing the game. 500 RUPEES???!!!! Also, it is very difficult to keep Link at full health as his health bar can easily decrease if you are not careful. Overall, A Link to the Past is a classic. People often decide if this or Super Metroid is the best SNES game of all time, but you really can't go wrong with either. ALTTP is a game that Super NES or Virtual Console owners should own and experience at least once because this game is an instant must-have. Check this out when you get the chance.
