User Rating: 9.5 | The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon PS2
Wat can I say about this game short of amazing? This game was without a doubt, the best of the Legend of Spyro trilogy!

For one, the graphics are astounding! When I saw screen images of the game, I thought for sure those were PS3 or 360 images, (being that this is the first Spyro game for those systems) but they are PS2 and I couldn't believe it! I can only begin the imagine the beauty and clarity of the game on those higher consoles!

As for the story, the a Legend is born. I won't say what happens, but the ending was a perfect way to end the trilogy. All in all, the story was consistant and easy to follow.

Let's start off with what really sets this game apart rom its prequel counter parts:

New:

- 2 Player Drop-in; Drop-Out Co-Op: you can play as Spyro and Cynder, or have a friend play as one or the other. You can also change modes between single and 2 player mode on the Pause screen.

- Armor: Now Spyro and Cynder can use armor to add defense, offense and other abilities. You have to find the armor in chests hidden thoughout levels. There's a grand total of 3 Helmets, 3 Braces and 3 Bodyplates per character. Completing a set of armor adds abilites and added effects. Or you can mix and match to make your own aresenal and combos.

- Free Flight: Yup, spyro can finally fly! Your attacks can be twice as effective from the air and it makes it easier to evade enemy fire!
Elements:

- Relic Crystals: Like in TEN, you have the chance to increase your health and mana meters. But now it's in the form of giant egg-like Crystals.

- Chapter Mode: Now you can re-visit levels without having to play the story again. This mode also lets you see what you missed in each level.

- Elite Enemies: Per level there is one extra boss to fight. The bosses are much harder than any typical enemy and you must use a particular element to defeat him. The gow of their helmet tells you element to use.

-Spyro the Dragon

---Fire: He still has his classic fire breath. The fire still has the unique ability to target the enemies and has great range. His secondary fire attack is still the Comet Dash. This attack is much easier to control but is twice as effective. I used this element the most when I played as Spyro.

---Ice: His Ice breath isn't as good at TEN, but better than ANB. He still shoots Ice shards, but now he has an Ice Twister attack as his secondary move. Very effective!

---Earth: This changed thios move again; he doesn't have a Flail or a Blast attack, he now becomes encased in stone and rolls in a boulder. Effective when you can aim it correctly. His secondary attack is much like the ANB Blast, but is a sole Rock Shot. Strong and accurate, great for aerial attacking.

---Electrcity: This changed this attack too. Much like the Electric Twister in TEN, he can charge into an orb of Electricity and zap the enemies. He has his current attack back like in ANB for his Secondary attack, but it's a single bolt now.

---Fury: The Fury attack was changed as well. Which is good if you accidentally hit L2 while playing and wasted your Fury like I did several times. Now you have to press Triangle and Square to use it. It's a blast, but then Spyro ues the Fury like he did his Darkness element in TEN. It doesn't last as long, but it's very effective. Plus, as an added bonus, his health and mana are restored.

(you can have this element at your disposal when you complete a set of armor per character)

-Cynder the Dragon

---Poison: She spits venom at the foes, an once it's maxed out it can drain enemies health and mana for Cynder, or Spyro if you switch quick enough. Her secondary attack is a Scorpion Strike that causes servere damage.

---Wind: This the elements I used most with Cynder. She can blow enemies away, or into one another, or use her scondary Cyclone attack and send all the enmies flying. Extremely useful if you find yourself surrounded.

---Shadow(fire): This attack is very unique. She can cloak herself with shadows and come up from underneath enemies. Her secondary attack is a mist that keeps the enemies enveloped. It's easier to watch enemy movement.

---Fear: This is a full range attacks. She uses a siren like effect to knock enemies back while damaging them. Her secondary attcks can temporarily paralyze the foe with fear.

---Fury: Cynder also has a Fury attack, and like Spyro, it can be made part of your elemental aresenal.

(Use Shadow to slip under some doors. You'll need in a few locations just to survive)

This game is amazing graphics, which makes it very enjoyable to play. The levels aren't as big at ANB or ETN, but with all the detail, you don't need ginormous levels.

Great sound quality which really sucks you into the game.

The controls take a while to ge used to, but when you do, you'll love them!

Just a heads up, fight Malefor is a pain in the ass! Try to stay behind him!

This game is officially one of my Top 5 PS2 favorites!
