Game of the year and all but I intend to give an honest review the game as I experienced it..

User Rating: 8 | The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC
I don't really get it with this game. Everyone loves it, apparently.. but I can't tell what is so fascinating about it. I don't really think the vastness alone of Skyrim makes this a good game. Yes there is a lot to explore, a lot to do and etc. but the problem is, very few of it is interesting.

I am not really a Bethesda Fan, or elder scrolls for that matter. Morrowind was really good, but Oblivion had many problems and Skyrim repeats them. Glitches and unrealistic AI behavior are things other people ignore easily but for me they disturb the immersion. Combine that with lack of atmosphere, and repeated characters and text models and its almost impossible to get as interested in this world as I did in The Witcher 2 and Dark Souls. Sure, this world is bigger and less linear, but I wouldn't say better.

The main story isn't great but some really good side quests to save it. The graphics are mediocre but a few good mods improve it. However, the two things that disappointed me the most with Skyrim were:

The UI:
Skyrim was clearly made for consoles, and thats not a fact that I will forgive. People really gave it to FF14 for having console controls and Skyrim has almost the same problem. Navigating your inventory and skills is almost impossible on a PC and overalll the UI is just... bad. Fortunately there are some mods to save this but...

Combat:
In RPG's, the best parts for me are the story and gameplay. In something like final fantasy and DQ (at least the old ones) I expect slow paced combat which require tactics, whereas in Dark Souls and The Witcher 2, you need to be precise and quick. Skyrim's combat falls more towards that of Dark Souls, but instead of dodging and blocking attacks with precision, you stand still and right and left click while switching spells and weapons with the horrid UI until your enemy is dead. It is dull and repetitive and I cannot believe people would ignore it. In oblivion, I can accept it, but in a year where so many other games boast superior combat Skyrim really falls short.

All in all I got what I expected from Skyrim. It is a bethesda game after all, and I expected poor combat + ui, cliched story and many glitches and bugs. I just can't really believe the hype. I guess I am missing something. :/
