An enjoyable game that has its moments. Just not that often.

I've been playing Skyrim on and off for over a year now. I went through brief periods of really wanting to play it and long periods of disinterest. I only put in 50 hours into the game which is just a fraction of time I put into Oblivion. It's odd because Skyrim is an improvement in almost all aspects. It's better designed, the mechanics are improved, Bethesda hired more than three voice actors this time round (although most had annoying Nord accents). The dragon encounters were exciting, shouts were an interesting addition and more thought went into the gameworld - the civil war, in particular, was a very nice touch.

At the same time, it all felt overly familiar. Sometimes I had to force myself to push on, the characters and the events that unravel around you still didn't impact me much. Granted, that was always a weakness of The Elder Scrolls. The true star of the game is the world and I simply didn't enjoy the mountains of Skyrim nearly as much as the lush forests and grasslands of Cyrodiil.

The scenery was pretty drab and boring, the towns all incredibly similar apart from Solitude and Markarth. The leveling system was pretty awful, all you got at each level was a single ability that most of the time didn't really impact much at all.

I don't have anything particularly bad to say about the game, but on the other hand I can't think of a single thing it does exceptionally well. All in all, it's an enjoyable game that has its moments. Just not that often.
