Tetris. One of the most popular arcade franchises of all time hits the Xbox Live Arcade. It doesn't really offer much so if you're looking for new advancements since the series began, you're better off trying Tetris Evolution.

Tetris Splash does have it's kicks though, if you're in the mood to kill some time in the classic arcade stylings of Marathon Mode. In this mode, you have to make it to Level 15 and successfully complete it. As you progress in Marathon, a white border gradually appears around the perimeter of the Matrix (the area the blocks drop in). The second mode offered is 40 Lines, also, not an unfamiliar mode as it has been in Tetris before, but to those who are unfamiliar, basically, you have to clear 40 Lines and the score elements are emphasized more on the time for this mode.

Of course, with most Xbox 360 titles, Tetris Splash also features online multiplayer capabilities. But word to the wise, you have to be beyond the title of veteran to be able to beat anyone! Maybe it's just me, but I always seem to fail at those. The whole build-up of lines at the bottom while you play doesn't help either. By that, I mean if your competitors do well in the match, they can actually send you lines (which appear as grey and have very few gaps in them). They are almost impossible to get rid of, so you really have to watch out when playing against other people.

I think perhaps the best thing about Tetris Splash, though, is the fluent controls. Everything handles very smoothly as you play and you can play a very enjoyable Marathon session.

All in all, this incarnation of Tetris doesn't offer much, but what it does offer should at least be pleasing to the old-school gamer who doesn't want to faff around understanding other game modes. Luckilly, the demo of this is available on Xbox Live to try out, so consider that before purchasing the game. 800 Points seems a little excessive for the lack of offerings in the game.
