Tetris Attack

Interesting twist on a classic

I was never sure why they chose Yoshi to be the star character for Tetris Attack, but I guess Mario needed a break before his induction into every type of sports game on the market.

Tetris Attack provides a wide range of different puzzle matches, from battles to time attack to puzzle clearing. The interesting thing about this game is the dedication to cuteness. All of the characters have little animations and sounds that give the player a sense of "awww" with a little indigestion.

Still, it is highly amusing and has a great two player mode. You feel like you are playing a fighting game because you drop blocks on your opponent every time you make a combos or a large clear.

The graphics and music are pretty good, but it is the battling that makes the game. I would recommend it if you what a slightly different puzzle game, but not if you think it is all about the battle.
