Note that I haven't played any tales games aside from phantasia and this game is kinda new to me. I heard a large controversy surrounding this game and now I can see why. Pros: Visuals are beautiful. They kinda dated, but since they are colorful I think it's okay Soundtrack is nice Battles are somewhat addicting A fair amount of options in character customization. And... that's it. Cons: Story isn't compelling. Majority characters are bland and it's really hard to relate to them Equipment upgrade/customization is utter shit. For me, this is the major flaw. It's confusing, convoluted, arcane and kills any wish to explore the world in order to find any equipment as the majority of it is EXACTLY THE SAME! And fusing system is absolute shit as well as it's absoulutly nullifies any point of late-game equipment. Combat kinda reminded me ff dissidia: you can move around the field, defend, dodge Abe attack type depends from your left joystick position. Problem is that everything that dissidia/other ff action-heavy games (well, aside form lightning returns) were doing right, Zestiria doing wrong. Without going in too much, I have to say that it's incredibly button-mashing. All you have to do is to strike the enemy weakness and then just mash b button before the very end. Well, u also can use a attacks but there isn't much difference in them aside from animations or minor effects. The world is dead. There is nothing to explore in it. Overall: repetitive and boring. The combat may be the only thing that will entertain you for a while, after you will eneviatably drop this game.
