If you are a hardcore RPG fan, it's worth a look and does have handheld RPG fun to offer.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a pretty hardcore RPG fan. But I also play anything that is fun. I picked this up one day at work and checked it out (I work at a GameStop) because there really aren't that many RPG's for the PSP right now. And if you are an RPG fan, you will find fun dungeon crawling here.

The story...isn't real deep. In fact there is almost nothing to it. Thus, I'm going to keep my mouth shut seeing that I could give a lot away in a few sentences. As for the characters, I have seen better in RPG's. The sad thing is the characters never really develop or share much with the player.
As for the dialog itself, it also could have been better and so could the voice acting while I'm on the subject. The point I want to get across about all this is that all this is not BAD, it's just not great. It's mediocre.

The basic gameplay is pretty fun, although you don't really get to do a lot of town exploring, you do get to explore a lot of dungeons. The only thing is, the dungeons are not all that exicting to look at. It's pretty much the same thing throughout. But that's alright considering the overall gameplay.
Basically you go into town, talk to the guild you work for and get a job. None of the towns people are let outside of town so you and your secrect guild have to do these things for them. So, after you take the job you will go talk to the person who wants it done. Sometimes they are part of the guild and will come fight with you.
Sometimes the jobs don't even envolve fighting. Sometimes you have to create or find items. Which brings me to my next subject, item creation.

This is a system that has been seen in many an RPG, but is rarely worth your time or needed in the game (exception: Star Ocean: The Second Story) But in this game it is a nesassary because of the job system. For the most part you have several different fields of item creation and you can level up in each one of them, which allows you to create better items and lowers your faliure rate. All this having been said it is very simple, which in this game is a good thing. But like other parts of the game, it could have been better.

Now back to the main focus of this game, the battle system. It actually turns out to be really fun. Not much new to see here though. You see your enemies on the field, if you come in contact with them you are thrown into battle. The battles are action oriented and control fairly well and can be pretty fun.

The last topic I'm going to cover is the graphics and difficulty of the game. The graphics are basic and there really isn't much to say about them overall. And as for the difficulty of the game, it's set just right which is what makes this game so enjoyable.

Bottom line though is that if you are an RPG fan, you should check this out because there is a lot of fun to be had here, but if your not you might want to avoid this title. Not because it's bad, but because it's not great.
