Classics never get old, they mature like a good vintage scotch.
But, the inside was still pristine, and after locating a fix to make it work on XP, i soon started off.
Though the NPC and player models did make me chuckle (they were great back then, but now they are hilarious), the level design was still very much watchable, ten years later. But it was the gameplay that still blew me away even after all this time. SS2 is a true testament to the mistic that is so lacking in today´s titles.
If ever there was a game that developers should study when they design their own RPGs, SS2 is the one. It had it all in spades.
If i had to choose a title as a candidate for the best game of all time, SS2 would rank in the top 5, tied with another title that i´m getting ready to revisit aswell: Deus Ex. I just hope it works on XP too.
My hat is off for the developers of SS2. Ten years later, it is still a worthwhile experience, and that says it all.
So, how about making a SS3? The cliffhanger at the end sure left the door open for that. :)
