My impressions of SSDHD as all the kiddies are calling it.

User Rating: 9.7 | Super Stardust HD PS3
So what do you do? It's sort of like asteroids in 3d. You are flying over a planet, trying to destroy all of the asteroids (made of ice, rock, or gold), as well as enemies, without getting killed. Each level has multiple phases and a boss at the end. Each level is also a new planet.

Weapons:

Rock Crusher
Ice Splitter
Gold Melter

So, my favorite weapon you ask? Hands down it's the Gold Melter. There's no "openings" in it's firing so you can't accidentally get hit while shooting. It's likely the best weapon. When you get it to max and then pick up another weapon power up, the level will double to 200% making it an uber weapon. It's unstoppable for the most part.

Arcade mode unlocks the planets. Planet mode lets you play a planet to try and get the best score possible which can also be ranked online. There is also a co-op mode but I haven't tried it out yet.

I only wish I had a better TV to process it all. There is absolutely no lag in the game even when there is a huge number of asteroids, enemies, and power up's on screen.

Speaking of power up's. They range from ships, shields, weapon upgrades, and points. The weapon upgrades cycle through the weapons so you can actually wait for the one you want to get so you can max out a set weapon first. If you leave power up's alone for too long, they degrade. As in, if they start out as an extra life and you don't touch it, it can dwindle down to only points.

You also come equipped with bombs and bomb power up's can also be picked up by destroying enemy ships carrying bombs. You have a boost meter as well which lets you boost across the planet (even with a ton of enemies on screen) in order to get to an empty space to gather your sense. Boost doesn't run out in terms of bombs, but it does need to recharge which happens in a few seconds.

My only gripe is the default camera setting which luckily can be changed. It has it set in too close to the ship making it hard to see things around the sides of the planet. This can be fixed in the options by changing it from near to far.

I would have given this game a perfect 10 if the co-op mode was also available online but since it isn't, this game will have to settle with a meager 9.5(with the new rating system) and a 9.7 with the old review system. Some may call it a Geometry Wars rip off, but it's far from it, you just need to play it for yourself.

This is by far one of the best PSN games out there right now.
