Lots and lots of fun with spot on controls, great graphics, and more!

User Rating: 9 | Super Smash Bros. Brawl WII

The Good: Silky smooth controls, wide variety of well balanced characters, impressive stage design, lots of interesting modes, items help make the battles more fun.

The Bad: Cliche story mode, characters are put in story mode just to be there, final boss is overrated, the great maze.

When the Wii first came out, there was one game that everyone was excited for. That game was Super Smash Bros Brawl. I was extremely excited for it when it first came out. It looked awesome! Was the game deserving of all that excitement?

The story of this game is that darkness is spreading. Evil creatures are invading all the worlds and the characters are helpless. They must group up and stop the evil that's invading. Okay now onto the review.

The worst part about the game is actually the story. It may sound cool, but it really isn't that special. It's kind of cliché and not super interesting. It also changes from a true fighting game to a platform game. It's entertaining, but it's not as interesting as anything else in the game. It also has the hated Great Maze, where you play the whole game again just to get to the final boss. It's annoying and repetitive.

My biggest gripe with the story is that some characters are put in the story just to be there. Examples include Yoshi, Ice Climbers, Lucario, Luigi, Mr. Game and Watch, R.O.B., and King Dedede. But the biggest offense of this is Sonic. He just comes at the very ending for the final boss. That's it. Completely unnecessary.

Another complaint I have with this game is that the final boss is really overrated. People say it is ridiculously hard, but it really isn't that hard. You just have to know what to do for each attack. And if you defend his undodgeable attack, you can avoid that to just by holding the Z button which pops up your shield. It's one of those memorizing bosses.

Starting off, you may think I hate this game, confused the review scores with each other, or confused the game with something else (considering the title), but it is actually a great game. The controls are spot on and easy to use. You can kick the butt of a character by a simple press of a button. It's easy to move, easy to attack, easy to play. It's just great.

The characters themselves are good. They have good art styles and are very well balanced, with the exception of Olimar, who sucks. It's really fun to play as them all and experiment to see which one you like the most. My personal favorite is Pikachu. He's a baller.

The stages are really cool. Each one has its one design and each own gimmick to it to make fights more difficult. That's a nice touch. The create a stage thing is cool, but I wish it had more options.

Speaking of which, this game has a lot of modes. From the normal brawl, to the story mode, to classic mode, to battle mode. This is a nice touch, giving the game a lot of variety in what you want to play.

This game has got great presentation. The graphics are great and everything has polish to it. Not to mention the music is awesome! It contains covers of classic video game themes, which I just love. In can turn on some serious nostalgia blinders for old school gamers.

It's also got items! Sometimes while fighting, something will pop out, whether it is a weapon, a trophy, or a pokeball. That gives the game a nice touch and can make the game more fun and challenging. It also has the ever classic smash ball. When these things fly in, you know it's go time. Hit it enough, and it will shatter on you, making you glow in an aura of power. You will use an extra powerful move, decimating everyone in your way. All of them are unique and creative, except for Peach's. She makes everyone on the screen fall asleep. That's just dumb.

Overall, this game is great. It has a few minor grievances like the uninteresting story mode, the great maze, limited stage editor, Peach's final smash, and Olimar, but those are easily made up for the great controls, spot on art style, cool characters (with the exception of Olimar), creative stages, awesome music, interesting modes, fun items, and the final smash ball. If you haven't played this game, please, PLEASE play this game. It's a lot of fun. Out of all the games I've ever played, I've played this the most, and it's worth every minute.
