Beautiful, haunting, and life-changing

User Rating: 10 | Super Metroid SNES
First of all, I am a huge fan of the Metroid series. Metroid Prime was my first Metroid game and I fell in love with it in the first five minutes I played it. I wanted to try other Metroid games as soon as I beat it. I eventually tried Super Metroid and now it is my 2nd favorite game and I still play it frequently.

Storyline: On the timeline, this game comes after Return of Samus and before Other M. At the end of Return of Samus, Samus Aran defeated the metroids and their queen on planet SR388, then discovering there is one last metroid, a hatchling, who has mistaken Samus for its mother.
Samus gives the hatchling to scientists for further research. Samus leaves the scientists at the space colony and was sent that the space colony was under attack. Samus returned to find that her nemesis, Ridley, had stolen the baby metroid.
Samus returns to planet Zebes to retrieve the baby and return it. She encounters many new bosses, explores bigger areas, and collects more items. She comes to Tourian, defeats Mother Brain, and escapes with the baby.

Concept: This is a two-dimensional platforming game. Shoot, run, jump, solve puzzles, do secret moves, and explore. You will be rewarded with a special ending if the game is completed fast enough.

Music: I can't stress enough how amazing, soothing, catchy, and fitting the music for this game is. It will get stuck in your head at the most random times. The music to this game has been remixed in many other Metroid games and they sound awesome. Sometimes you may find yourself just standing in an area just listening to the music. The fanfares are amazingly lovely, even after you hear them a hundred times.

Controls: The four main buttons are for shooting/using weapons, jumping, running/using extra visor, and canceling the special item you're using. You can customize it to your liking. L and R can be used for diagonal shooting. Start is look at map or customize Samus (this was introduced in this game). Select is choose your items.
You can also make Samus moonwalk.

Graphics: I LOVE how Samus looks in this game. She looks like how she did in Return of Samus, but with color. It's so colorful and yet kind of real. Bosses look so detailed (Kraid is huge!). Overall the graphics are absolutely perfect!

So as I have said, this is a marvelous game. A must get! Get it on Virtual Console or if you're like me, get the cartridge for the Super Nintendo if you have one. I recommend this game for all gamers. Try it!
